General Description

The Field Service Instrument Technician is responsible for delivering exceptional service and technical expertise to support process instrumentation products. By configuring, calibrating, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairing process instruments and systems, this position ensures customer satisfaction while fostering strong, solutions-oriented relationships.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site demand, outage, and contract field services for process control instruments, including pressure gauges, flow meters, controllers, and transmitters.
  • Conduct diagnostics, calibration, and preventive maintenance; provide repair, replacement, and upgrade recommendations.
  • Install, start up, and commission process instruments by configuring devices and integrating them into existing systems using specialized software and tools.
  • Test and verify instrument accuracy, documenting results in logs or electronic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions in process instruments and control systems to minimize downtime.
  • Provide informal and on-the-job training to customers on equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Communicate customer needs and opportunities to the organization, offering technical expertise to develop strategies that support customer goals.
  • Collaborate with the Sales team to enhance customer satisfaction and grow service opportunities through established programs.
  • Complete performance reports, certificates, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Deliver technical assistance to customers, including troubleshooting and repair disposition.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and company regulations, maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
  • Meet site-specific safety requirements and participate in company safety and quality initiatives.

 

Qualifications

Required Competencies

  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in process instrumentation, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to effectively engage with plant personnel and customers.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
  • Teamwork: Collaborative approach to working with internal teams and customers.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working off-hours, weekends, and overtime on short notice, as well as in varying environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, or clean rooms).

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1,800 hours of technical education or an Associate’s degree, or 3+ years of relevant instrumentation and industrial experience.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with diagnostic and configuration tools.

Additional Information:

  • Must reside within our territory - SC/NC/VA
  • Must maintain driver eligibility and adhere to company driving policies.
  • Active participation in company safety, quality, and improvement initiatives is required.
  • Overnight travel is required for approximately 50% of the role.
