Description

The Engineering Department Manager is a working manager accountable for the overall image and professional performance of the Prefix Engineering department.  The position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, growth and improvement of the department.  The Engineering department is responsible for both internal and external customer projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  (Other duties may be assigned.)

 

  • Responsible for developing and implementing new policy and procedures deemed necessary to promote the organized growth of the department
  • Continually seek ways to improve operational efficiencies of the department
  • Directs department activities, through subordinates.  Responsible for their development, and motivation
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and merit reviews as dictated by Prefix corporate policy
  • Responsible for the generation of departmental plans, objectives and their subsequent deployment
  • Responsible for the completion of project or applicable project task at or under budget and within scheduled timeframe
  • Understand the direction and needs of the Engineering department customers and work with them to meet their needs and objectives
  • Apply engineering principles to design, modify or develop parts and components
  • Confer with the appropriate personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop design
  • Prevents or eliminates defects in new or existing products
  • Continually focus on improving operational efficiencies
  • Develop detailed information needed for quotes requiring Engineering support
  • Provide inter-departmental support
  • Assist in any task assigned or approved by the Director of Product Development. Tasks will be assigned according to employee availability and individual talents

Qualifications

Successful, extensive background in prototype engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience.  General knowledge of automotive engineering standards and strong administrative, managerial, and interpersonal skills required.  Ability to supervise personnel and coordinate workflow to meet or exceed predetermined timelines and quality levels.  A minimum of 1-year supervisory experience is required.  Engineering degree required.  Working knowledge of CAD software is a plus.  Needs to be a self-starter with proficiency in budgeting time and allocating resources.
