Summary

Under immediate supervision, this versatile position is responsible for addressing research requests that come through the Reference Desk, contributing to the firm’s Knowledge Management initiatives, as well as creating content for firm users, and contributing to department projects and initiatives.


Essential Functions

  • Provides quick reference and in-depth research services using a variety of legal and non-legal resources, determining the appropriate resource to use based on time, cost, and user need
    • Fulfill research requests of varying complexity, practice area and focus
    • Conduct in-depth reference interviews—in person, via email, or virtually—to clarify the subject, scope, and purpose of request
    • Analyze, summarize, and customize research results to meet the specific requirements of the requestor
  • Maintain expert working knowledge of research resources and technologies
  • Coordinate access to, license compliance with, and train on commercial databases; create research and bibliographic tools on legal and business topics
  • Recommend, review, and test new services and products for possible addition to the collection and manage against duplication with existing resources
  • Proactively monitor research requests for training opportunities tailored to both attorneys and staff
  • Conduct research and technical training across a variety of mediums including individual, group, and electronically; prepare and maintain instructional materials
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes at the federal, state, and local levels 
  • Conduct client research in a timely, accurate, and ongoing basis
  • Active participation in department meetings as well as contributing to and documenting procedures and best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to manage a heavy workload, competing priorities and multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines
  • Possess and maintain a strong working knowledge of an array of resources and technologies and the ability to adapt to new resources and technologies quickly and effectively
  • Possess strong technical skills in electronic legal databases relevant to the firm’s practices
  • Demonstrate an excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to tailor research strategy and resource selection based on time and cost constraints and other considerations
  • Demonstrate excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and technology skills
  • Evaluate, analyze, and synthesize information from diverse sources and package final work product in a user-friendly format
  • Exercise sound judgment and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Work collaboratively with all levels of personnel
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to continual service improvement by participating in regular training and actively engaging in professional networking, associations, and online communities

Work Environment

In-state employees will be primarily hybrid in the Denver office. However, due to the nature of the position out-of-state, remote employees are also considered. The employee may be required to be at the office at the discretion of the manager.


This role routinely uses standard office equipment. Because this position will be handling client information, employees must work from a home office and not a public location during any remote periods.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with benefits eligibility. Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening, weekend work, and overtime may be required as job duties demand.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum of five years’ experience in a research/knowledge/library department is required


Preferred Education and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in library and information studies and/or J.D. from an accredited law school strongly preferred
  • Experience in a law firm environment strongly preferred
