REPORTS TO:     Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager

SUMMARY:   Responsible for assisting in the successful operation of the Hope Chest Thrift Stores. The Senior Retail Clerk performs duties which include, but not limited to, processing merchandise, cleaning, organizing, cash register operation, customer service, and other responsibilities as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Process merchandise by sorting, separating, cleaning, tagging, and pricing merchandise.
  • Daily keep a constant flow of products moving to the sales floor.
  • Provide exceptional customer service. Greet customers, spend time walking through the sales floor to greet customers with a smile. Consistently demonstrate a helpful attitude.
  • Responsible for accepting donations. Follow donation guidelines and enforce the store donation policy.
  • Consistently stock and display merchandise on the sales floor in a visual appealing manner to keep a full and promotional store.
  • Performs merchandising techniques as instructed by the management. Restock and create displays as directed.
  • Operate cash register functions. Follow proper cash register guidelines to operate appropriately.
  • Consistently demonstrate a demeanor that is courteous towards customers.
  • Follow cash handling and cash register operation policies.  
  • Provide store support, supervision, and guidance to program workers, volunteers and staff as directed in the absence of the Store Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager.
  • Follow appropriate opening and closing processes.
  • Follow appropriate cash handling procedures. 
  • Recover, clean, and organize all areas in the store during closing hours an follow the closing process.
  • Open store and donation center.
  • Daily prepare store areas by processing housekeeping and stocking responsibilities.
  • Provide Retail Clerks with direction. Ensure that Retail Clerks are productive.
  • Follows all policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for secure handling of keys and store alarm codes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous customer service and/or retail experience.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work with little and/or no supervision

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  This position works in a retail store environment which includes warehouse type receiving area. 

 

WORK SCHEDULE:  The employee is required to work a regularly scheduled 30-40-hour work week.  Days/hours may vary and could be consecutive days up to 8 hours per day, with occasional overtime as needed, to maintain the production processing requirements of the position. Part-time (20 to 29 hours per week) and per diem (less than 20 hours per week) may be utilized depending on company need.
