SUMMARY

The Avionics Technician is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of aircraft avionics systems and components. This includes ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and customer specifications, maintaining accurate documentation, and contributing to a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform installation, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics systems including navigation, communication, transponder, autopilot, and DME systems.
  • Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance manuals.
  • Submit completed work for inspection and ensure all maintenance meets FAA and internal quality standards.
  • Use test equipment to evaluate performance and functionality of avionics systems.
  • Repair and/or replace components and wiring; perform splicing, soldering, and wire terminations.
  • Maintain records, complete work order sign-offs, and enter labor in maintenance tracking systems (e.g., Corridor).
  • Tag and store customer property correctly; ensure traceability and accountability of all equipment.
  • Support line maintenance and installation teams as needed.
  • Ensure all workspaces are kept clean, organized, and compliant with safety procedures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and maintain knowledge of company procedures and FAA regulations.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE

  • Comprehensive understanding of avionics systems and electronic components.
  • Proficiency with reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documents.
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as Pitot/Static testers, Nav 401L, AT600, and oscilloscopes.
  • Working knowledge of Garmin G1000 systems and other general aviation avionics platforms.
  • Understanding of FAA regulations, documentation requirements, and quality assurance standards.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2-Year Electronics Technology degree preferred.
  • FCC License with Elements 1 and 2 highly preferred (Element 3 optional).
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Must meet Airport Authority requirements for ramp access and badging.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in aircraft avionics maintenance.
  • Prior general aviation or FBO experience required.
  • Experience with Garmin G1000 systems and related avionics platforms.
  • Proficiency using standard avionics testing equipment

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work performed in hangars and occasionally on the ramp, with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to aircraft exhaust, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, solvents, and lubricants.
  • Regular exposure to noise from operating engines and test equipment.
  • Must be able to work safely in confined spaces and elevated areas.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb ladders.
  • Occasional walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Frequently lift up to 10 lbs; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in tight or awkward positions inside aircraft.

 

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • If a Security Clearance is required:
    • Candidates "must/may need" to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
    • Successful candidates must be able to secure Program Access approval
