Serve as a more senior Commercial Loan Officer. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the MBS Loan Policy of credit unions including regulatory compliance criteria for granting business/commercial loans including construction loans. Solicit loans; compile, prepare & underwrite applications including construction loans; perform credit analysis, borrower loan risk rating, and loan reviews. Review underwriting analysis for determination of approval/denial of credits for large loans sent to CUSO. Prepare and participate in Loan Presentations to the MBS Loan Committee including participation in loan purchases and construction loans. Minimum of 5 years experience in commercial lending.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for selling and cross-selling Credit Union services to current and potential members. Credit Union services are to be promoted using the "member benefit-based approach".
  • Fully complies with the requirements of all Credit Union policies, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act and OFAC Policies.
  • Interview borrowers applying for business/commercial loans including construction loans or refinancing of existing loans, and performance of borrower annual reviews.
  • Responsible for soliciting and managing construction loans.
  • Evaluate and interpret financial information provided by borrowers; perform credit investigations, financial analysis, underwrite & risk rating of the business. 
  • Recommend/submit over-limit loan requests to AVP or CLO and/or MBS Loan Committee. Provide recommendations to AVP or CLO and/or MBS Committee with regard to risk, structure, pricing, and financing options.
  • Responsible for generating new loan and fee income that contribute to the desired mix in loan type, profitability, risk, quality, and growth.
  • Maintain accurate and complete credit files. Participate in the collection of past-due business loans. 
  • Ensure that the Credit Union is in compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations that govern the Credit Union’s business/commercial lending program. 
  • Assist Branch Managers and other appropriate personnel in the promotion of Member Business Services.
  • Perform Due Diligence of Credit Unions/CUSOs selling loan participations and 3rd party vendors.
  • Coordinate with Credit Unions/CUSOs selling loan participations, from initial contact to booking. 
  • Stay abreast of all credit union Business Services and operations. Review loan policies, procedures, and regulations directly involved with MBS.
  • Active participation in community and corporate functions.
  • Mentor new and junior commercial lenders
  • Lead sales meetings  
  • May be assigned other tasks by appropriate line supervision.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

There are no direct reports but may assist the AVP or Manager with some supervisory duties.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Business or Economics; 10 years’ experience in commercial lending preferred.  Strong preference will be given to an existing loan client.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time with minimum direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory compliance.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook Email /Calendar, and Internet Explorer software.  Experience in Bank Labs Construction, Symitar, Episys, and nCino preferred.
