Description

The YMCA currently has Part-Time and Full-Time Childcare entry-level, Mandarin-Speaking Assistant and Teacher positions available in Irvine, CA.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with curriculum-aligned activities for participants, including homework assistance, social-emotional learning, arts and crafts, STEM/STEAM, and physical education.
  • Foster youth success through mentorship, guidance, and encouragement, actively encouraging program engagement and participation.
  • Support participants in making positive choices, implementing appropriate disciplinary actions when needed to create a stable and nurturing atmosphere conducive to their success.
  • Communicate and work effectively with participants, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Record and maintain daily attendance and other documentation as required.
  • Preferred availability
    • Opening shifts- 6:30am to 8:00am
    • Part-time shifts- 1:30pm to 6:00pm 

Qualifications

Hiring Criteria

To be considered for a position, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Education & Certifications:

    • Assistant: A High School Diploma or equivalent. Additionally, for licensed childcare programs, 6 units in Child Development are required. For non-licensed/ASES programs, you'll need 48 college units or a passing proficiency exam prior to hire.
    • Teacher 1: 6 units in Child Development or a related field, along with continuous enrollment in a minimum of 2 units per semester towards completing 12 units.
    • Teacher 2: 12 units in Child Development or a related field.
    • Teacher 3: 12 college units, with 6 units specifically in Child Development or Education. The remaining 6 units can be in Psychology, Sociology, Recreation, Physical Education, Art, or Music. A 15-hour preventative health practice certification is required within 90 days of employment, and YMCA Core trainings must be completed within the first 60 days.
    • ASES: 48 college units or a passing proficiency exam prior to hire for non-licensed/ASES programs.
    • All Positions: Pediatric (EMSA) First Aid and Pediatric (EMSA) CPR certifications are required within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience & Background:

    • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
    • While 6 months of experience working with children is preferred for most roles, Teacher 1 and Teacher 2 positions require 6 months of experience.
    • Teacher 3 positions require one year of experience working with children.
