JOB SUMMARY:

The ReStore Driver is responsible for accurately and promptly completing all aspects of donation pick-ups, including inspection of item(s), carefully packing box trucks to prevent damage to donations, and unloading at delivery store location. As the face of Habitat CAZ, drivers are expected to perform as Brand Ambassadors engaging donors in a pleasant, supportive manner. All drivers must use safety precautions, proper procedures and prudent driving tactics as outlined by HFHCAZ while operating in support of the affiliate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Act as the representative of Habitat for Humanity ReStores to ensure that all donors are treated professionally and courteously.
    • Attempt to resolve any issues that may arise in the course of a donation pick up and immediately report issues that occur.
    • At the conclusion of every interaction, genuinely thank the donor and express gratitude for their contribution.
  • Utilize schedule software to execute daily routes and pick up donations as assigned.
  • Use provided resources to contact donors if there is a change to previously communicated pick up time.
  • Constant communication with call center dispatch on job updates and reschedules.
  • Identify items that meet quality standards and are suitable for resale following ReStore guidelines. Inspect donations carefully and enforce requirements tactfully.
    • This includes use of the 80/20 rule.
  • Ensure that care is taken to protect the security and safe handling of all donated goods and materials – From removal at donor, loading on truck, to delivery at store.
  • Protection of company assets by securing all loading doors, tools, and vehicles before during and after routes.
    • This includes keeping box area and cab area clean and organized.
  • Mandatory PPE and safety resource usage at all times while operating vehicles and loading/unloading.
    • Designated Safety Spotter wears vest, Traffic cone and chocks placement, etc.
  • Maintain compliance with all issued training, including LMS training assigned by the affiliate.
  • Keep appropriate records.
  • Complete Truck Inspection Report daily and report maintenance and safety conditions to supervisor verbally.
  • Must maintain a neat appearance and good hygiene, including clean clothing and wearing of designated uniform and applicable PPE.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and customers.
  • De-escalation of negative donor and customer interactions
  • Must be self-motivated and carry a positive attitude as the brand ambassador.
  • Applicants need to pass a criminal background check. drug screening and MVR.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • Convey clear, concise information to others, using verbal or other appropriate communication techniques.
  • Complete formal training plan and assignments as required.
  • Treat others in a nondiscriminatory, lawful and ethical manner, respecting the differences among people, and the value they bring to HFHCAZ.
  • Follow safe practices in all work activities to avoid injuries and accidents.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona’s Mission, Vision, Core Values and Value Proposition – and be able to, as a brand ambassador, advocate their message.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess a current and valid AZ driver’s license, with good driving record.
  • Must pass driving and driver safety video series.
  • Familiarity with Phoenix Metro area.
  • Knowledge of building materials and handling.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a truck driver.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:

  • The entire job takes place in a large box truck, at donor sites, in ReStore warehouses, and occasional office or classroom settings.
  • Dress code is casual and comfortable with issued uniform shirts and provided PPE; no sandals or open shoes allowed; steel toed boots recommended but not required.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Employee must be proficient in or able to use or learn to use office equipment such as computer, printer, phone, copiers, calculator, and other communication vehicles.
  • Able to operate the following equipment: Pallet jacks, forklift, hand carts/trucks, furniture hand truck dolly, ratchet straps and securing devices, Hand Tools, Power Tools, tablets, and cellular phones, basic first aid kits, fire extinguisher, and drive a Motor Vehicle (Box Truck).
