Position Overview

Develop programs to organize and analyze data from a broad range of economic, demographic, and sociological surveys and studies to provide information relevant to the management of local government. Create written communication related to designated topics for distribution to county officials and legislators. Some travel required.  

Essential Job Functions

  1. Develop survey and study specifications and procedures, assist in data collection operations, develop and design survey questionnaires, analyze and evaluate data, develop statistics, and disseminate study results through written publications and oral presentations. 
  2. Support Legislative Services Department with relevant reports and information highlighting the work of county government. 
  3. Respond to information requests from county officials, TAC departments, legislators and their staff, and the general public.
  4. Build, maintain, and administer databases for storage and retrieval of data from various sources, including the Texas State Demographer and other state agency resources.
  5. Coordinate with Technology Services to maintain web site pages providing access to reports and to external data sources and products relevant to the operation of local government.
  6. Attend stakeholder meetings and conferences to remain engaged on data trends both in Texas and nationally. 
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience / Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, applied demography, statistics, finance, library science, or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience with data collection and analysis. Local or state government experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Position requires expertise in governmental data analysis and the ability to exercise independent judgment in making decisions related to database management and program development.
  • Position requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Skill presenting and defending reports based on data analysis required.
  • Ability to relate to people with a variety of cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Position requires a high degree of professionalism in representing TAC in significant contacts with elected officials, state government staff, and members.
  • Must be proficient in the use of personal computer and Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record required; must be able to drive.

  • Supervision Received: Responsible for conducting specialized assignments or developing programs under only general direction and guidance.
