Job Description: Heavy Equipment Operator

Level: Hourly

Exempt:  No

Shift: 8:00 – 17:00 Plus Overtime as needed

Department: Operations

Reports to: Warehouse (Terminal) Manager/Supervisor

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Operate equipment such as Powered industrial Forklifts to perform work that the equipment is designed for
  • Maintains housekeeping standards as designated by location Staff/Management
  • Come to work properly dressed with work pants, work boots and proper PPE (glasses, goggles & gloves for example) as well as being prepared to work outside during inclement weather.
  • Must be able to recoup freight as needed & must be flexible with job assignment
  • 2 years of Experience Operating Heavy Equipment is required
  • Must perform all duties assigned by Management to ensure operations continue without interruption
  • Load and unload containers, truck, or railcars in a safe and efficient manner as instructed by Management
  • Must be able to Operate 30 MT Forklifts and Front End Loaders safely
  • Must pass Big Lift Operator test, demonstrating Safety and Operational know how of equipment.

Maintenance

  • Responsible for checking equipment for damage or repairs as need and keeping Management informed
  • Perform daily inspection of assigned equipment and perform minor maintenance tasks
    • Minor maintenance, such as: washing, cleaning, testing equipment

Administrative

  • Must be able to read and understand the paperwork and the task being requested from the paperwork
  • Must be able to write clearly on the paperwork to answer questions being asked and fulfill operations paperwork requirements and understand METRIC system
  • Must be able to clearly mark freight with Unit information for record keeping and tally freight
  • Must be able to read and understand Operations Procedures

SAFETY

  • Shall not operate any equipment before filling out PIT operator’s Pre-operation inspection report
  • Ensure that safe equipment operating conditions are met before operating and during operations
  • Must inspect and understand Rigging Requirements

Education, Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • Ability to read and write and apply basic Mathematics concepts
  • Experience operating forklifts of various types and sizes, experience in the hold of a ship
    • If no experience in a hold, operator must be willing to be trained
  • Ability to respond to issues quickly, safely, and effectively in a fast-paced environment MUST be able to work in all-weather elements
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card
  • Be willing to be part of a TEAM and work together to achieve Operational Goals

Physical Requirements

  • Be able to lift 90lbs
  • Perform work in dusty, dirty environment in all weather conditions
  • Employee must meet physical requirements but not limited to: kneeling, walking, crouching, climbing ladders and navigating uneven surfaces
