SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse is a professional who assumes responsibility for providing and/or supervising the delivery of quality patient care within the framework of the Nursing Department. The Registered Nurse uses initiative, independent judgment, and professional skills in utilizing the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care rendered. The RN is responsible for their own actions and competencies. The RN must apply the Nursing Process and incorporate instruction, teaching, and discharge planning into the care of each patient. The Registered Nurse fulfills the mission statement of the hospital and is the role model demonstrating compassion, competence, collaboration, and creativity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
Prepares equipment and aides Physician during treatment and examination of patient.
Able to initiate and manage a Code C situation.
Able to interpret EKG recordings and has the knowledge of monitoring the treatment of life-threatening arrhythmias, as well as non-life threatening arrhythmias.
Able to assist, maintain, troubleshoot a patient requiring ventilatory measures.
Maintains ACLS certification as required by Community Memorial Hospital.
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies the supervisor or Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
Able to care for the patient in the pre and post-op surgical areas including the PACU.
Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.
Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instructions.
Maintains accountability for quality care as perceived by patients, families, medical staff, peers and colleagues.
Demonstrates knowledge and principles of PI and application of systematic improvement process.
Reviews staffing patterns, acuity, and nursing personnel assignments. Utilizes staff to meet productivity objectives.
Provides care in the Pain Management environment directed toward meeting both psychosocial and physical needs of the patient. Proficient in pain management guidelines and medication dosing.
Enthusiastically assumes greater job responsibility by creating opportunities and assists necessary without prompting.
Demonstrates professionalism regarding dress and personal hygiene.
Demonstrates a high degree of concern about people, takes time to care and show understanding and exemplifies expected behaviors, promotes team concepts and actively contributes toward conflict resolution.

Responsible for performing work in a manner that illustrates the hospital’s mission and values.
Helps maintain a clean, orderly, safe environment in the department. Assures proper care in the use of tools, equipment and supplies.
Responsible for wearing or using the Personal Protective Equipment as required.
Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics and Compliance program. Detect, observe and report compliance variants to supervisor, compliance officer or hospital hot line.
Maintain confidentiality according to the hospital information security policies and confidentiality statement.
