Description

The Family Child Care (FCC) Educator Support Specialist/Family Advocate plays a key role in providing technical assistance, consultation, and coaching to FCC Educators to ensure high-quality early childhood education. The specialist will work closely with both educators and families to enhance the learning environment, foster positive child interactions, and support professional development.

 

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

Monthly Visits

  • Conduct at least two announced visits per month (minimum 30 minutes each) to assigned FCC Educators.
  • Provide support in areas including, but not limited to, licensing compliance, curriculum planning and implementation, child interactions, family engagement, behavior support, child screening and assessments, and other identified needs.
  • Use a variety of methods such as modeling, observations, demonstrations, discussions, and reflection to support educator goals and professional advancement.
  • Report all visits, observations, and concerns to the FCC Educator Support Specialist Supervisor and IT Coordinator/FCC Director.

Family Engagement and Support

  • Provide consultation to FCC Educators on developing strength-based relationships with families, ensuring positive, respectful, and supportive interactions.
  • Support families in meeting the individual needs of their child/ren including providing information on developmental assessments, screenings and/or referrals for Early Intervention Services, when appropriate.
  • Partner with families to plan and evaluate program offerings and utilize feedback for continuous improvement.

 

Screenings and Assessments

  • Oversee and provide training on the use of ASQs (Ages and Stages Questionnaires), child assessments (TSG), and curriculum planning.
  • Ensure timely completion of ASQs, TSG assessments, and Quarterly Progress Reports, and provide direct feedback to educators on their evaluations.
  • Log all relevant information in the ELV system.

Curriculum and Environment Support

  • Monitor and provide feedback on FCC Educators' curriculum plans.
  • Model best practices and demonstrate the Creative Curriculum during visits to FCC homes.
  • Support FCC Educators in completing the FCCERS (Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale), BAS (Business Administration Scale), IPDP (Individualized Professional Development Plan), CQIP (Continuous Quality Improvement Plan), and CDA (Child Development Associate) requirements and renewals.
  • Ensure FCCERS, BAS, and CQIP are completed annually.

Program Support and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other FCC Support Specialists to oversee and participate in the FCC Nursery School Program (40 sessions/year, fall and spring).
  • Work closely with the FCC Educator Specialist Supervisor and IT Training Coordinator to develop and implement individual educator action plans as needed.

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Complete Health/Safety Checklists and Child File Audits at educators' homes every six months.
  • Log all injury/accident reports in the ELV system and ensure signed forms are collected and filed appropriately.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with phone coverage and other office tasks as needed.
  • Track and send reminders to FCC Educators about licensing renewals, PQR (professional Qualification Registry, CPR and First Aid certifications, Assistant’s licensing and certifications, CDA, and Liability Insurance Ensure updated information is received, logged in ELV, and on file before expiration.

Meetings and Training

  • Attend DEEC (Department of Early Education and Care) working together meetings.
  • Attend all FCC Educator Monthly meetings to stay aligned with program goals and share updates.

Qualifications

  • Training in principles of adult learning, best practices in early childhood and out-of-school-time and working with mixed-age groups, EEC child care licensing regulations and policies, and approaches to professional learning including but not limited to technical assistance (i.e., coaching, mentoring, consultation).
  • Experience working in Family Child Care or supporting FCC educators.
  • Possession of at least EEC Lead Teacher certification, a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a Child Development Associate Home Visitor credential.
  • Knowledge of curriculum planning, child assessments, and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with educators, families, and colleagues.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Bilingual; English/Spanish required.
  • Travel to FCC homes within the assigned region.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the educators and families.
