Director of Technology

The Calhoun School, a progressive independent school located on Manhattan's Upper West Side, is seeking a full-time Director of Technology starting September 2022.

 

The Director of Technology provides vision and leadership for all technology initiatives and programs at Calhoun. This role is responsible for supervising the team that manages the School’s technology, data and information, digital security, and technical services. The Director of Technology is responsible for the planning and implementation of enterprise systems and data that support the school’s administrative operations and academic functions; they propose budgets for programs, purchases, upgrades, and projects; supervise all technology department staff; lead all technology related projects.

The Director of Technology reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and direction for all areas of technology and information management, programs, and personnel

  • Maintain annual technology budget, budgeting process, and vendor relationships

  • Create, implement, and maintain a technology strategic vision; determine institutional priorities for administrative and educational technology initiatives and projects using input and guidance from the school’s leadership team

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of technology systems and staff, including but not limited to: network/systems infrastructure, faculty/staff/admin technology and programs, software inventory/licensing/compliance, application/information services (Google Workspace), A/V, telecommunications, and other services.

  • Oversee Academic Data Manager and manage all aspects of academic data and integrity, including, but not limited to: attendance, grade/comments and reporting, transcript creation, data workflows to adjacent systems and tools

  • Serve as top level administrator and support for network and systems infrastructure

  • Manage technology department staff; provide direction and guidance for professional growth in staff’s areas of responsibility

  • Maintain a technology risk management plan and ensure compliance with the school’s cyber security insurance coverage(s); periodically engage specialists to evaluate the school’s cyber risk; continually educate leadership on cybersecurity trends and best practices

  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current and developing information systems technology, equipment, and systems

  • Oversee school office, which manages attendance records and exmissions reports for lower and middle schools.

Qualifications

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in related field (advanced degree preferred)

  • Minimum of five years with progressive management of technology systems 

  • Previous experience in a leadership role supervising a team or department

  • Experience in an independent school environment
