JOB TITLE:       REGISTERED NURSE/LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE
DEPARTMENT:      GIBSON CITY CLINIC    

GENERAL SUMMARY  
The Office Nurse administers skilled and technical care to patients according to a plan of care established by the provider.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Assures optimal delivery of safe and efficient care to persons seeking primary     care at The Clinic.
2.    Assesses and records patient’s condition and vitals prior to contacting the     physician or nurse practitioner.  
3.    Accurately reports patient’s condition to appropriate physician or nurse     practitioner.
4.    Answers and documents all incomping telephone calls.
5.    Must be familiar with location of all supplies necessary to assist physician and     nurse practitioner in treatment of patient. 
6.    Prepare billing information for office clerk. 
7.    Clean and package any supplies that are prepared for sterilization.  
8.    Assure that rooms are stocked with supplies at all times. 
9.    Follow physician and nurse practitioner orders in treating patients. 
10.    Maintain a good professional relationship with staff members. 
11.    Maintain an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special     consideration to cleanliness of room, ventilation and lighting.  
12.    Records periodic counts of drugs and biologicals.  Immediately reports any     discrepancy.  
13.    Performs business office activities as assigned when not busy with patients.
14.    Makes follow-up calls on a daily basis to patients seen on prior day, as needed.
15.    Promotes good community public relations to ensure public understanding of the     capabilities of The Clinic. 
16.    Performs other related tasks including such as training/orientation in in-service     education (OSHA Requirements, Rural Health, Medicare Compliance, HIPAA,     etc.)  
17.    Participates and/or takes leadership role in all aspects on non-emergency     services (i.e.:  Disaster Plan); encourages all employees to maintain ongoing     awareness including for #16 above.  
18.    Empties trash, cleans all counters, phones, and door knobs at the end of the day.  
19.    Performs CLIA waived laboratory tests as needed.  
20.    Maintains an atmosphere of patient-centered care.
21.    Ensures that staff is pleasant and courteous in their interactions with patients,     physicians, visitors, and staff. 
22.    Ensures that strict confidentiality guidelines are maintained.  
23.    Other duties as assigned.  


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  
1.    Occasionally required to lift and assist patients in moving.  
2.    Frequent exposure to contagious diseases.  
3.    Has the usual sitting, standing, and stooping of regular nursing and office jobs.
4.     Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
•    Floor to waist - 40 pounds
•    14” to waist - 50 pounds
•    Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
•    Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
•    Carry 40 pounds for 30 feet
•    Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
•    Pull 40 pounds/force for 10 feet

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to Office Coordinator/Receptionist, Mid-Level Provider, Respective Physician, GAH Administration
 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1.    Must be licensed in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse or a Licensed     Practice Nurse and certification must be kept current.
2.    Experience not required, but preferred.  

INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category 1-Maximal Risk-this job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids and tissues on a routine basis. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine. Yearly flu vaccination and tuberculosis testing are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1.    Works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like. 

2.    Works with patients and may be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
