Maintains unit patient care supplies, ensures timely flow of patients and assists physicians and nurses to provide optimal care to patients and families.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides Patient Care.
2. Assesses physicians’ schedules and organizes work to ensure timely and efficient patient flow.
3. Calls and accompanies patient to exam/procedure room.
4. Gathers information from patient regarding visit to provider and puts on computer.
5. Performs screenings per provider guidelines, i.e., vital signs, height, weight, etc
6. Charts in EMR and prints forms as appropriate.
7. Prepares patients for examination or procedure.
8. Provides direct assistance to patients when needed, i.e., walk, transfer, dress, obtain specimens, etc.
9. Assists providers and/or nursing staff with various procedures.
10. Recognize limits of scope of practice and performs procedures according to policy, i.e., suture removal, wound culture, dressing removal, dressing application, measures scoliosis patients, cast removal and application, podiatric procedures, application of immobilization devices as directed by provider.
11. Relays instructions to patients and families.
12. Transports patients per wheelchair or cart when needed.
13. Obtains computer printout of laboratory and x-ray reports when needed.
14. Assists Provider and nurse in cast application in hospitalized patients.
15. Maintains Patient Care Environment.
16. Cleans exam tables and rooms between patient visits.
17. Restocks exam and procedure rooms.
18. Order and maintains unit patient care supplies, making sure all supplies are in date.
19. Puts away supplies, linen and equipment.
20. Cleans instruments to be sterilized.
21. Complete x-ray orders as received.
22. Monitor schedules on a regular basis to insure appointments are appropriate.
23. Make x-ray / lab requests as necessary for scheduled appointments.
24. Back up front desk as needed.
25. Provide support to registration as necessary.
26. Provide support as needed to providers and nurses
27. Complete work comp authorizations for surgeries, tests and injections.
28. Review weekly chart prep to insure consult information is entered in computer.
29. Performs all other duties as assigned.
30. Schedule and organize surgeries for the surgeons.
31. Working knowledge of computer applications.
32. Follows infection control fundamentals r/t: Standard precautions, good hand washing, disposal of bio hazardous materials, aseptic technique, disinfection of instruments/equipment, and preparations for autoclaving.
33. Adheres to policies and procedures, federal/state/local requirements and regulatory bodies.
34. Can perform an accurate EKG on a patient
35. Has knowledge of the complete surgery scheduling process.
36. Will apply casts and splints
37. Will also be cross trained to room patients for sports medicine, cardiology, and the Mahomet Specialty Clinic.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Heavy level of physical effort to lift patients and transfer patients to chair to bed.
2. Physical strength to perform the following lifting demands:
• Floor to waist - 40 pounds
• 14” to waist - 50 pounds
• Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
• Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
• Carry 40 pounds for 30 feet
• Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
• Pull 40 pounds/force for 10 feet
3. Being on feet all day.
4. Works closely with providers, nurses, and receptionist staff. Communicates with staff members of other units and departments.
5. Communicates with and assists in provision of direct care to patients and their families.
