POSITION SUMMARY
Chadwick School is seeking a long-term substitute teacher for two sections of 10th grade English and two sections of A.P. English Language 11th grade English, from December 2025 through March 2026.
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching English and a passion for working with Upper School students. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with active teaching teams, with curriculum design led by the teaching team and Department Chair, allowing the substitute to focus primarily on delivering engaging and effective instruction.
ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach 4 sections total, including two 10th grade English sections and two A.P. English Language 11th grade sections
- Serve as an advisor to a group of students meeting approximately once per week.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment of mutual respect and rapport; incorporate anti-bias practices into the classroom culture
- Support established principles of backward design (UbD) to course and unit curriculum.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques to engage students in active, experiential learning grounded in authentic texts and experiences.
- Use Chadwick shared assessment and grading practices to assess, record, and provide feedback on student learning and next steps.
- Submit grades and student comments as instructed and on time.
- Keep information systems up to date, including Google Calendar, Google Classroom, and Veracross gradebook
- Attend relevant department and faculty meetings and school events, including faculty meetings, assemblies, etc.
- Read and follow employment policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Read and follow academic policies outlined in the relevant division Handbook.
- Communicate promptly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
