WAGE: $68,640 - $80,000/annually

 

Café Matcha is a new concept from the team behind Alfred — steeping in tradition, but with a classic, retro styling, we aim to make matcha approachable to everyone. We will be highlighting the beauty, diversity, and origins of matcha in a familiar, diner-esque space, while crafting innovative drinks and treats for customers. 

 

We expect all staff at Café Matcha to be incredible at hospitality, like your favorite hometown café, hard workers, honoring the craft and tradition of matcha and tea making going back a millennia, and a source of knowledge around all things matcha.
 

SUMMARY OF JOB:

The Cafe Manager is responsible for leading the cafe’s team in the efficient and profitable operation of Café Matcha, while also being the go-to authority on matcha, our products, and our operations. They are responsible for managing day-to-day store operations of the cafe, overseeing a staff that consistently crafts excellent food and beverages, and fostering a welcoming environment which provides efficient and hospitable service for both fellow team members and customers. The Cafe Manager sets the tone and personality of a store through careful management of employee training, hospitality standards, product knowledge, encouraging safe work practices, and demonstrating a commitment to company policies.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the overall success of the café.
  • Manage sales, profit, and cost control for food, inventory, labor, supplies, and expenses.
  • Manage employee schedules to meet business needs and maintain labor costs.
  • Plan and execute sales promotions and implement new products.
  • Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, and merchandising.
  • Ensure excellent hospitality and customer service standards are met by entire team.
  • Lead the recruiting, hiring, training, and development of employees.
  • Maintain positive morale through employee input and skills development.
  • Coach team members for improved performance and adherence to company  policies.
  • Promote safe work habits and resolve safety hazards.
  • Ensure adherence to drink and food recipes, procedures, and high quality of offerings, ensuring quality control and a high level of craftsmanship.
  • Educate team members on products, services, and tea knowledge, ultimately being the “expert” of the store.
  • Adhere to all company policies and complete assigned tasks.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Previous experience in a cafe or restaurant setting.
  • A passion for working with the public in a customer-facing capacity. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and under pressure.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance.
  • Move quickly and efficiently from one area of the café to another.
  • Flexibility to bend and squat as necessary to perform cleaning and stocking tasks.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of operating a point-of-sale to enter orders accurately and efficiently.
  • This job requires full hand functionality for making drinks and using equipment. You'll need to handle the espresso machine, steam wands, and other tools with ease and precision. Dexterity and coordination are key to preparing beverages.
  • Ability to speak clearly and project voice to effectively communicate with customers and team members.
  • Have reliable transportation to get between locations.
