SUMMARY

The Senior Controls Project Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all activities supporting the successful and timely delivery of projects of medium to large size and complexity.   This role sets project schedules, selects project team members, monitors and controls project budgets, enforces project deadlines, and works with Team Leads to allocate additional internal and external resources as necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages projects through the entirety of the project life cycle, overseeing phases of larger projects and whole smaller projects.
  • Creates long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines within scope.
  • Develops Request for Quote/Proposal (RFQ/RFP) for contracting Electrical Installation Contractors and Controls Engineering.
  • Defines project scope and objectives, prepares budget based on scope of work and resource requirements, and monitors project budget, advocating for additional funding as necessary.
  • Works closely with Program Managers, Controls Engineers, and cross-functional teams to plan and drive the execution of engineering activities.
  • Coordinates with Functional Project Managers to ensure development of cross-departmental schedule and testing plan.
  • Manages contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables.
  • Serves as a key member of the Change Control Board when analyzing and/or submitting Change Requests.
  • Monitors and analyzes project metrics to identify weaknesses and propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects.
  • Serve as a mentor to Level I - II Controls Project Managers.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering-related field, or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

Five (5) to Seven (7), or more, years of experience in project management, preferably in a material-handling, industrial, or manufacturing environment.

Travel:

30 – 50% of travel as required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of electronic, electrical, and automation engineering
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, for both internal and customer audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience working on full design-to-production project lifecycles.
  • Passionate for team-based planning, problem-solving, and wholehearted commitment to building strong partnerships to support project goals.
  • Advanced organization skills, with ability to handle multiple priorities at once.
  • Experience working directly with clients on business development and project management topics, requiring negotiation and analytical ability.
  • Familiarity with project management software tools, such as Visio, MS Project, etc.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, requiring regular problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30 certification within six (6) months of hire or transfer into position.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE II certification a plus.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office tools such as MS Project, Word, PowerPoint, & Excel.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain stationary at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to go to site frequently and move safely around industrial and/or warehouse environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices.
  • Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing, on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
