Position Overview

Oversee daily landfill operations to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This role requires on-call availability for after-hours issues, with a focus on rapid response and effective problem-solving.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily landfill operations, optimizing personnel and equipment use.
  • Oversee staff hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Lead and document safety meetings; enforce safety protocols for employees and customers.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and equipment maintenance regulations.
  • Maintain site cleanliness and equipment through regular inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Develop and implement operational plans for waste disposal, construction, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with ownership on equipment needs and operational strategy.
  • Supervise direct reports, including the Operations Supervisor, Lead Operators, and up to 10 full-time employees.
  • Act as a community liaison as needed.
  • Prepare and submit required reports promptly.
  • Coordinate with the Engineering Consultant on landfill construction, permitting, leachate, air, and gas management.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of special waste and industrial waste acceptance. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or GED with 4 years of relevant experience accepted.
  • 5+ years of experience in landfill operations or heavy construction.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or management role.
  • MOLO (Manager of Landfill Operations) certification or equivalent required.
  • Proficient in heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Basic Spanish is a plus.
