Description

PURPOSE: The Store Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Stores Director in all operations of the store. The following departments within the store are warehousing, docks, repairs and maintenance, production, and transportation and retail sales. It is the responsibility of the Store Supervisor to manage staff of the various departments within the store and to ensure its effectiveness for the complete operations of the store.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Tasks:

  • Ensure that the store and its departments are properly staffed and supervised and operating in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Responsible for the merchandising of the store and that the store is well stocked, attractive, and clean and store renovation complete.
  • Insure a positive service experience for the in store and in-kind customer base.
  • Assist Store Manager in making sure that the store and its departments are in compliance with all safety procedures, regulation and codes.
  • Handle complaints from donors and customers and bring them to a speedy resolution.
  • Monitor store sales, including car sales and purchases.
  • Assist in maintaining a yearly advertising plan and help prepare sales and ads to the various newspapers.  This will be in conjunction with the PR/Marketing Department.
  • Plan and implement special promotions through a general merchandising plan.
  • Recognize specialty items for sales and have a good working knowledge of brand names, periods, and quality of furniture and clothing.

  • Assist Store Manager in preparing a yearly operational plan for the store to include long-range strategy planning beyond the current operational year.
  • Maintain effectively the utilization of floor, warehouse and production space.
  • Utilize donations to maximize the greatest revenue for the store
  • Oversee the Safety Program of the Society in conjunction with support from Human Resources. Works with Human Resources to ensure Safety Training conducted yearly and is a member of the Safety Committee.   
  • Reports any accidents and turns in an incident/accident investigation report to Human Resources in a timely manner. Ensures stretching exercises conducted throughout the stores with employees.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience or educational equivalent in Thrift Store production/procedures.
  • Knowledge of merchandise and market values.
  • Have a working knowledge and skills in administrative policy and procedures.
  • An ability to supervise staff effectively.  
  • A working knowledge of safety codes, procedures, workers compensation, liability insurance issues and human resources.
  • Must have good public relations, marketing, merchandising and customer service skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:

  • Stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Lift and move up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be available to work weekends.
