POSITION OVERVIEW: (Discription pending board approval)
Title: Chief Medical Officer
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Wage Range: $360,000 – $552,900
Schedule: M-F; 8-5, or as assigned
Status: Exempt
Summary: The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for the clinical leadership, oversight, and coordination of all medical services within the health center. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CMO ensures that clinical practices meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and patient-centered care. The CMO also acts as a liaison between the medical staff, administration, and the Board of Directors, contributing to strategic planning, clinical operations, and regulatory compliance.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (will include, but not be limited to)
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for all clinical departments, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Supervise and support providers (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants) and collaborate with nursing and allied health staff to ensure high-quality care delivery.
- Champion a culture of patient safety, continuous improvement, and evidence-based practice.
- Develop, implement, and monitor clinical policies and protocols, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and tribal health regulations.
- Lead peer review and quality improvement initiatives across the health center.
- Participate in recruitment, credentialing, privileging, onboarding, and performance evaluations of medical staff.
- Work in partnership with the CAO, Medical Director, and Clinical Quality Officer to ensure efficient clinical operations and patient flow.
- Support integration of medical services with behavioral health, dental, and public health departments, as applicable.
- Represent the medical staff in meetings with the Board of Directors and executive leadership.
- Advise on medical aspects of grant applications, public health programming, and community outreach.
- Serve as a clinical spokesperson in community and inter-agency collaborations when appropriate.
- Ensure provider adherence to documentation, coding, and billing compliance expectations.
