🕒 Position Overview

  • Job Title: Server
  • Location: 3001 Atlantic Ave, Virginia Beach, VA 23451
  • Schedule: Seasonal, Variable or Part-Time (must include weekends and holidays)
  • Work Environment: Oceanfront hotel right on the boardwalk

📝 Summary:
As a Restaurant Server, you will play a key role in providing excellent customer service and ensuring a positive dining experience for our guests. You will be responsible for taking orders, serving food and beverages, and attending to guests' needs in a courteous and efficient manner.

What You’ll Do:

  • Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, engage with them in a friendly and professional manner, and provide attentive service throughout their visit.
  • Order Taking: Take drink orders from customers, including both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Menu Knowledge: Have a thorough understanding of the cocktail menu, wine list, and other beverage offerings, and be able to make recommendations based on customer preferences and tastes.
  • Drink Preparation: Work closely with bartenders to prepare and serve drinks to customers efficiently and accurately, following established recipes and presentation standards.
  • Upselling: Utilize suggestive selling techniques to promote additional drink options, upgrades, or specials to enhance the guest experience and increase sales.
  • Table Maintenance: Monitor and maintain cleanliness and organization of tables and seating areas in the bar or lounge, including clearing empty glasses and plates, wiping down surfaces, and ensuring a tidy environment.
  • Cash Handling: Process payments for drink orders, including handling cash, credit card transactions, and processing payments accurately and efficiently.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to alcohol service laws and regulations, including checking identification to verify legal drinking age and refusing service to intoxicated individuals when necessary.

Legislation & Company Policy

  • Gain TIP certification within 3 months of acquiring the job.
  •  Check the identification of guests to ensure guests are of legal age to consume alcoholic beverages. Refuse to serve beverages in a polite manner to guests who are not of legal age.
  • Use judgment and reasoning to cope with difficult situations, such as preventing a guest from alcohol intoxication, dealing appropriately with an underage guest. "Carding a minor and delivering a glass of water rather than refusing service or confronting the guest"
  • If a guest is consuming alcoholic beverages, observe guests’ behavior, count the number of drinks served and if the server feels they should not drive, offer a taxi. Do not hesitate to ask a manager to intervene.
  • Pour tests are administered throughout employment to ensure accuracy.
  • Understand and actively support all company policies relevant to your role.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED certification
  • Experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Must have basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience as a server or bartender in a bar or restaurant setting is preferred but not required. We welcome candidates with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Customer Focus: Passion for providing excellent customer service and creating memorable experiences for guests.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to ensure smooth operations and guest satisfaction.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, carry trays of drinks, and perform tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on business needs.
