ABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Has the knowledge, skills and ability to:
- Understand, interpret and apply materials, principles, plans, practices and techniques used in the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of a variety of electrical installations and equipment as it pertains to electrical code and inspections.
- Understand and apply major types of building construction materials and methods.
- Understand, interpret and apply building related codes and ordinances enforced by the City, including the International Building, Fuel Gas, Existing Building, Plumbing and Mechanical Codes and National Electric Code.
- Understand, interpret and apply Accepted safety standards and methods of electrical installations and building construction for commercial, industrial and residential buildings.
- Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques to examine workmanship and materials and detect deviations from plans, regulations and standard electrical installation and construction practices.
- Advise on standard electrical system installation methods and requirements for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
- Enforce necessary regulations with firmness and tact.
- Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
- Use modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computer equipment and applicable software programs.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, City Officials, outside agencies and the general public.
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including, but not limited to employees, vendors and the general public.
- Interpret, apply, develop and respond to questions regarding pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations including administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
- Research, compile, analyze, interpret and prepare a variety of fiscal, statistical and administrative reports.
- Maintain confidential data and information.
- Utilize materials, principles, and practices used in the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of a variety of electrical code installations and equipment.
- Utilize mathematics including standard applications of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry in industrial, commercial and residential building design.
- Utilize safe driving principles and practices.
- Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques to examine workmanship and materials and detect deviations from plans, regulations, and standard electrical code installation and construction practices.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities may be:
Experience:
Five years of increasingly responsible inspection experience.
Education:
A high school diploma required, along with the completion of a full electrical apprenticeship.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid Wyoming driver's license.
Possession of a Journeyman or Master Electrician License issued by the State of Wyoming (Master Preferred).
Possession of International Code Council Commercial Electrical Inspector
Preferred Additional Certifications:
International Code Council Fire Inspector I or II
International Code Council Fire Plans Examiner
International Code Council Commercial Building Inspector
International Code Council Commercial Building Plans Examiner
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 75 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for shift work, on-call, and stand-by.
