GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction and supervision of the Program Director, the Activity Leader I will assist the director in the implementation of programming. The Activity Leader I will foster social, physical, spiritual and mental growth and demonstrate the core values of caring, honesty, responsibility with program participants. The candidate will assist with staff supervision and provide leadership in the absence of the Director.

KNOW HOW

  • Experience working with youth is preferred.
  • A minimum of 18 years of age is required and high school diploma, or its equivalent required.
  • Passionate about working with teens with the ability to interact and communicate effectively.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information on children, family and YMCA staff.
  • Must maintain current certifications in Heartsaver CPR, First Aid, Safety & Risk Management, Child Abuse Prevention and New Employee Orientation or the ability to obtain within 60-90 days of employment.
  • Supervisory and administrative skills including ability to supervise program participants and maintain required program documentation and records.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with training other program staff as needed.
  • Assist in the planning, supervision, and implementation of the assigned branch programs.
  • Maintain the quality of supplies, materials and equipment for the program.
  • Maintain records as required.
  • Provide direct program leadership as assigned.
  • Provide safe programs and environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.
  • Actively participate in the Invest-In-Youth annual campaign.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training associated with the department.
  • Assist with other projects or activities as needed.

 

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk and jog for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport equipment if needed.
  • Ability to visibly observe participants, hear distress signals and respond accordingly.
  • Ability to concentrate even when distracted by noise and activity.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments (cold, warm & those subject to extreme heat & humidity).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to reason, solve problems and make independent judgment and decisions.
  • Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.
  • Ability to observe and promote safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to physically and mentally respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
