Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Scribe to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:         The scribe’s primary role is to assist a physician in creating and maintaining a patient’s medical record, though a scribe may assist the physician in other ways. Provide service excellence based on patient care and patient relationships. Functions as an effective team member with teamwork being the core approach whether doing order entry or providing patient care. Enters Provider medication and lab orders accurately and efficiently. The Scribe communicates with Providers and other medical staff, about patient’s lab and medication orders. Effectively provides a quality level of service to both internal and external customers and carries out tasks as delegated by Providers and Supervisors. Provide/support patient care by performing tasks and duties consistent with regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures, and standards. Additionally, is able to perform general duties in all areas within the clinic with adequate supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scribe:

  • Accurately and efficiently enter Provider Order Sets (including medications and labs) for all patients.
  • Facilitate timely and accurate flow of communication within the clinic/location.
  • Clarify unsigned orders and chart notes with the provider.
  • Educate all patients about the significance and importance of registering for the patient portal. This includes asking the required questions for patient portal registration and providing the patient with accurate documentation on their username, default password, how to change this password, and accessing the patient portal from home.
  • Educate the patient about the different topics covered in their current patient summary.
  • Order and “Associate” all orders and care plans in the chart note to complete an accurate picture of the visit.
  • Enter patient rooms with provider and document while care is being provided.
  • Make all spelling and correction errors throughout visit
  • Review with provider immediately after the patient has left to verify accuracy. Make any corrections necessary at this time. Require the provider to sign off on the chart note to close out of the note and move to the next patient.
  • Keep scribe work areas clean and the equipment properly maintained.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:  Associates degree in a Healthcare/Medical related field is preferred. Successful Completion of Medical Terminology Course.

Experience:   Prefer at least 6 months experience working directly with Physicians in a clinical setting.

Equipment/Technology:  Computer knowledge, Electronic Medical Record Knowledge

Language/Communication:  Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak English.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts to perform dosage calculations necessary to calculate proper dose of medication needing administered to patients.
