Summary of Responsibilities

The Middle and Upper School Classics teacher is responsible for teaching at least four classes in the Middle and Upper School divisions. Enthusiasm for working with students across a wide range of ages is essential. There is potential for additional opportunities, such as leading a club or coaching. 

 

Reporting Structure

The Classics teacher reports to the Department Chair of Classics and the Upper School and/or Middle School Director.

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities associated with that of a subject area teacher including lesson planning, development and assignment of student learning activities, student assessment, record keeping, grading, and grade reporting
  • Creation of a warm, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Active, positive, and professional participation in all faculty meetings
  • Effective communication with parents, department chair, and administration
  • Participation in and support for the growth of the department’s instructional program
  • A teaching load based on faculty strengths and department need
  • Other division-based responsibilities, such as advising students, as assigned by the division director.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Classics
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • A strong interest in the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students
  • A strong interest in discussion-based pedagogy
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development 

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this 10-month faculty position is $74,006–$112,853, with experience informing a base salary as published in Hackley’s faculty salary stage scale.
