Description

Hackley Lower School, a K-4 division serving 205 students on a 285 acre campus, seeks a Part-Time Floater Teacher /After-School Assistant for the 2025-2026 school year. This position reports to both the Assistant Director and Director of the Lower School. 

 

During regular school hours, this position will serve as a “floater,” or in-house substitute teacher /aide, whose responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: supporting homeroom and specialist classes (e.g. science, art) and student supervision. This position may also include educational clerical duties, such as creation of bulletin boards or preparing materials for lesson plans. This role is an opportunity to support students and teachers during regular school hours.

 

After school, this position serves as an After-School Assistant, as in-house support for the Assistant Director of the Lower School in all matters related to the Lower School After School program. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: managing After School logistics, supervising students and administrative work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing support to teachers as requested and club leaders to ensure a safe and stimulating environment, including working with large groups of students as required

  • Communicating issues to the Assistant Director and Director of the Lower School in a timely fashion

  • Supervision of various transitions throughout the after school program

  • Managing billing, payroll, and communication 

  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Salary Information:

This position is a full year, 20 hour per week position - 4 hours per day when school is in session. The role is paid at a rate of $25 per hour.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree required / Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working with elementary school-aged children
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, during the hours of 1:30-5:30 P.M. (some flexibility available)

 

Skills:

  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and behavior management with elementary students
  • Ability to work collaboratively with children and colleagues
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures, keeping students safe at all times
  • Ability to build relationships with students
  • Willingness to learn about and engage in a variety of student management strategies
  • Effective organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment at all times
  • Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with colleagues and parents
  • Flexibility, kindness, and sense of humor
  • Able to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty and club leaders both  in-person and via email
  • Experienced with Google Suite applications (specifically Drive, Docs, and Sheets) and Microsoft Outlook
