
Position Title: Retail Assistant Manager

Purpose of the Position
The Retail Assistant Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing daily retail operations, supervising staff, and maintaining accurate inventory across all Fischer & Wieser retail locations. This role helps ensure exceptional customer service, smooth store operations, and strong sales performance while upholding Fischer & Wieser’s core values of faith, family spirit, top quality, supreme service, integrity, and laughter.
Core Responsibilities
General Store Management – 10%
- Assists the General Manager in day-to-day operations across all retail locations.
- Ensures customer needs are met promptly, concerns are resolved effectively, and service reflects Fischer & Wieser’s core values.
- Oversees store cleanliness, order, and safety.
- Maintains compliance with all food safety, alcohol service, and legal standards.
- Enforces company policies and procedures to ensure consistency across all stores.
Staffing and Supervision – 20%
- Collaborates with the General Manager and HR Department to recruit, hire, and train team members.
- Provides coaching, counseling, and performance feedback in coordination with the General Manager and VP of Retail Operations.
- Leads, motivates, and trains staff in customer service, selling techniques, merchandising, and POS system usage.
Retail Sales – 30%
- Works alongside sales associates to deliver outstanding guest service and hands-on support with daily operations.
- Models effective selling techniques and product knowledge to drive revenue.
- Ensures all products are attractively merchandised to maximize sales and profitability.
Inventory Management – 30%
- Assists with POS setup for inventory accuracy, including setting and monitoring minimum/maximum quantities.
- Ensures merchandise is stocked, rotated, and displayed according to planograms and standards.
- Maintains accurate inventory counts, records transfers, and reconciles discrepancies.
- Oversees receipt of purchases, documentation of transfers, and periodic physical inventories (cycle and annual).
- Tracks operational supply needs (Uline, Ben E. Keith, etc.) and communicates reorder requirements to the General Manager.
- Maintains organized, clean, and well-stocked product displays and back-stock areas.
- Ensures staff follow all opening and closing procedures, including accurate cash handling and register reconciliation.
- Supports monthly end-of-month reporting and assists with sales summaries and reconciliations (to be completed on the last or first day of the month, before or after hours).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong leadership and staff management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service abilities.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Basic math proficiency and ability to handle cash accurately.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with management and other departments.
- Proficient in POS systems, Excel, Outlook, and general computer use.
- Ability to remain flexible under changing circumstances while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Must be able to work weekends.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required to travel between store locations.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of retail experience; previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Food Safety Manager and TABC Seller/Server certifications required (training provided upon hire).
Working Conditions
- Typical retail store environment, including prolonged standing, walking, reaching, and stooping.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor elements.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work hours may vary between 8 a.m. – 11 p.m., seven days per week. Some travel required.
