IUMCH is seeking a Full Time Registered Nurse!

 

Please note: This position requires in-person work 4 days/week (any days Monday - Friday) along with on-call on weekends (triage through phone).

 

Key Responsibilities

 

1. Medication Management

  • Administer or oversee administration of medications, ensuring adherence to physician orders.
  • Ensure all medication is administered accurately through routine review of MAR and auditing.
  • Ensure compliance with psychotropic medication policies outlined in DCS Policy 8.30.
  • Monitor STAT and PRN medication use; ensure appropriate physician orders and documentation of rationale.
  • Identify and report concerns of overuse or side effects and participate in decisions regarding discontinuation.
  • Train direct care and designated staff on safe and compliant medication administration procedures, including proper documentation, medication storage, and handling protocols.

2. Health Oversight & Coordination

  • Schedule and ensure completion of all routine and emergency medical, dental, and vision care for youth.
  • Conduct monthly wellness checks on all youth and document findings appropriately.
  • Coordinate annual EPSDT (Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment) services.
  • Maintain and regularly update each youth's medical passport.
  • Communicate with external medical providers and internal team regarding treatment updates.
  • Administer random drug screens to youth as needed, obtain and review results, and ensure appropriate documentation is completed and communicated to the treatment team.

3. Special Precautions & Risk Monitoring

  • Participate in assessment and care planning for youth on special precautions (e.g., suicide risk, elopement risk, self-harm).
  • Ensure documentation of initial assessments, ongoing monitoring, and reassessments.
  • Collaborate in behavior management planning when medication is a factor.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete and update treatment plans and treatment plan reviews for assigned youth.
  • Contribute to monthly progress reports detailing medical care and medication status.
  • Prepare health-related documentation for court appearances and treatment reviews.
  • Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA and DCS policies.
  • Utilize the Credible Electronic Health Record (EHR) and QuickMAR systems for all documentation, including assessments, progress notes, monthly reports, medication logs, and treatment planning.

5. Team Collaboration

  • Be an integral part of the interdisciplinary team and attend team meetings on a regular basis.
  • Participate in daily morning meeting calls to discuss youth updates, medical concerns, and care coordination.
  • Support and guide direct care staff on health-related protocols.
  • Promote trauma-informed and culturally responsive care practices across the team.

6. Licensing & Compliance

  • Ensure all nursing practices are consistent with Indiana Code (465 IAC 2-12) and DCS contract standards.
  • Maintain current RN licensure and complete all required trainings.
  • Participate in quality assurance and program audits.
  • Review, maintain, and assist in the creation of medical-related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

7. Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and guidance to assigned medical support staff, including the Medical Liaison.
  • Ensure delegated tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor performance, provide coaching, and report staffing needs or concerns to leadership.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new medical support staff.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Active RN license in the State of Indiana
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience (pediatric, adolescent, or behavioral health preferred)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work within a trauma-informed care model
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Work Environment

  • This position operates in a 24/7 residential setting and includes on-call duties at all times to support medical needs and emergencies.
  • RNs must be available for crisis response and collaborate across departments to ensure continuous care.
