We operate the largest residential program for formerly homeless women and children in the Sacramento region providing services 24 hours/day, 365 days/year, offering shelter, meals, childcare, and comprehensive support services, including Behavioral Health Services, Hands-on Employment Training, Career Education, and Family Services.

Position Overview

TITLE                          Development Manager                     

SALARY                     From $68,000 To $72,000 Annually

CLASSIFICATION      Full-Time, Non-Exempt

LOCATION                 On Site - Jackson Rd. Sacramento, CA (possibility for hybrid based on job requirements)

SCHEDULE                Monday- Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

 

About the Position…

Saint John’s Program for Real Change is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Development Manager to lead the development, submission, and management of public, private, and corporate grant proposals. As a key member of our Development Team, you will play a vital role in identifying funding opportunities, crafting compelling proposals, ensuring grant compliance and reporting, and cultivating strong relationships with funders. You’ll be responsible for…

Grant Strategy and Execution 70%

  • Lead all stages of the grant process for securing corporate, community, and foundation grants to help achieve an annual department goal of $1.8 million.
  • Write persuasive, accurate LOI’s, proposals and reports, effectively translating quantitative data into compelling storytelling.
  • Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar and tracking systems; coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely submissions, deliverables, and donor recognition.
  • Monitor awarded grants to ensure timely use of funds, compliance with requirements, and clear reporting of impact.
  • Work with various departments to create and keep track of grant budgets.

Funder Relationship Management 15%

  • Conduct in-depth prospective research to identify new grant opportunities that align with organizational priorities.
  • Manage a portfolio of institutional funders with a focus on cultivation, stewardship, and long-term engagement.

Development Support and Community Engagement 15%

  • Assist development efforts through site visits, tabling events, department meetings, and fundraising activities.
  • Complete and submit sponsorship applications for Saint John’s signature fundraiser - Party for Change.
  • Oversee and manage in-kind donations, including Amazon wish lists, community drives, and gift tracking.

 

You must have...

  • Fluent in English language (spoken and written)
  • Proficient knowledge of email, copiers, fax, and internet
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
  • An incredible passion for our mission
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in grants management, fundraising, or nonprofit development.
  • Demonstrated success in writing grants and managing funder relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and grants/project management tools (Salesforce a plus)
  • Strategic thinker with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Standing/walking approximately 20% and sitting 80% of the time
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to hear and respond to simple and sometimes critical messages exchanged in noisy/high traffic areas.
