POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Vice President of Mission Advancement, this position drives association fundraising through strategic grant identification, research, and persuasive writing. The ideal candidate is a mission-driven storyteller with exceptional writing skills, a proactive work style, and the ability to manage competing deadlines. This role plays a critical part in securing funding that advances the Y’s programs, which meaningfully impact tens of thousands of Southern Nevadans each year.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Research & Prospecting

•    Identify and cultivate new grant opportunities from government agencies, private foundations, and corporations.
•    Assess potential funders for strategic alignment with the Y’s mission, programs, and priorities.
•    Maintain an organized grant calendar to track opportunities, deadlines, submissions, and reporting schedules.

2. Proposal Writing

•    Craft persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding requests tailored to each funder.
•    Develop clear, compelling narratives that highlight community needs, organizational/program impact, and funding needs.
•    Ensure compliance with all proposal submission guidelines, formatting, and submission requirements.
•    Collaborate with program and finance teams to gather program data, operating budgets, and success stories

3. Collaboration & Strategy

•    Track and analyze trends in philanthropic and grantmaking landscapes to inform strategy.
•    Partner with leadership to set annual grant revenue goals and funding priorities.
•    Coordinate with leadership to align grant activities with organizational objectives.
•    Work closely with the Compliance and Reporting Coordinator to ensure grant requirements are 
fulfilled

4. Stakeholder Engagement

•   Attend required grant-related trainings, webinars, and workshops as mandated by funders or internal policy.
•   Facilitate internal grant trainings for relevant staff to ensure understanding of requirements, deliverables, and expectations for secured grants.
•    Cultivate and maintain collaborative, professional, and positive relationships with funders through clear communication and follow-up.
•    
Represent the organization in meetings with funder and partners, as needed, to support proposal development and strengthen long-term relationships.

 

 

ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS:

  1. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with children.
  2. Attends required abuse risk management training.
  3. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  4. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  5. Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

 

 

END RESULTS:

  1. Submit accurate, timely, and competitive grant proposals.
  2. Achieve a minimum 50% new grant/proposal approval rate and minimum 70% grant/proposal renewal rate.
  3. Secure at least $1.5 million in grant funding within the first 12 months to support the YMCA's Annual Campaign (funds that support already budgeted activities). Annual goals will be reevaluated to align with organizational needs.
    • At least half of this amount will be in the form of proposals to renew existing grants/donors or from new sources already identified by the organization.
  4. Sustain through renewal proposals existing government grant revenue levels (not factored into the Annual Campaign), with growth as appropriate to the organization's needs and capacity.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. At least three years related experience securing competitive grants as the lead writer; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Strong computer skills; highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  4. Exceptional skills in persuasive, impact-oriented writing, including ability to write compelling cases for support.
  5. Experience with grant prospecting databases, CRM systems (e.g., Bloomerang), and/or online funding portals (e.g., ZoomGrants) preferred.
  6. Upon hire, completion of YMCA’s Working with Children training.
  7. Within 30 days of hire, current CPR for the professional rescuer (includes AED), First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
