Summary: Provides instruction and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and adults with disabilities by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Instructs and assists clients with self-help skills such as dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, and feeding, with the goal of increasing clients’ level of independence.
Bathes, dresses, and assists clients in walking, turning, and transferring, as needed. Feeds clients or helps them feed themselves; records food and fluid intake.
Provides personal care (toileting/diapering) to clients whenever needed.
Answers clients’ call lights.
Performs general housekeeping duties and helps maintain neatness and cleanliness of leisure areas, classrooms, and other training areas.
Assists in the classroom by presenting instructional objectives to client or a group of clients, and by helping clients participate in classroom activities.
Assists clients with appropriate use of adaptive equipment, such as communication devices, computers, wheelchairs, walkers, and splints.
Observes and records data accurately, as required, including client bowel, bladder, and intake information.
Observes clients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
Uses appropriate behavior modification techniques to manage clients’ inappropriate behaviors.
Checks the Log Book daily and follows therapists’ orders regarding clients’ wheelchairs, alternate seating, positioning, feeding, splint and AFO wearing, etc.
Accompanies recreation staff on outings as assigned.
May be required to drive Easter Seals vehicle, following satisfactory completion of Rules of the Road training.
Cleans wheelchairs, mats, and toys, and charges batteries on adaptive equipment, such as wheelchairs and communication devices), on night shift.
Demonstrates understanding that the clients never stop learning, therefore assists clients with leisure time activities by interacting with them, encouraging social interactions, and by organizing/leading/initiating activities and games.
Cooperates with coworkers and other departments to provide clients with a nurturing and supportive living environment.
May be required to report to work before scheduled shift and/or remain after the end of scheduled shift in order to meet mandated staff ratios and adequate service needs for individuals served during inclement weather or emergency situations.
