Position Summary

The Working Shop Foreman is a hands-on leader in the service department, responsible for both performing vehicle repairs and supervising day-to-day shop operations. This role combines advanced technical expertise with leadership responsibilities to ensure quality repairs, efficient workflows, and a high standard of customer service. The Working Shop Foreman supports technicians with diagnostics and repair processes while actively contributing to shop productivity through completed repairs.

Key Responsibilities

Repair & Diagnostic Work

  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on medium- and heavy-duty trucks in accordance with OEM and dealership standards.
  • Lead by example in quality, efficiency, and professional conduct while performing repair work.
  • Take ownership of complex repairs and serve as a technical resource for less experienced technicians.
  • Perform road tests and post-repair quality checks to ensure accuracy of work completed.

Shop Leadership & Workflow Oversight

  • Collaborate with Service Advisors and Service Manager to assign daily work, prioritize jobs, and monitor technician productivity.
  • Schedule shop work to maximize efficiency and ensure jobs are completed on time and to standard.
  • Monitor work in progress; provide direction and support to technicians as needed to maintain flow.
  • Participate in technician performance reviews and provide input on skill development needs and shop training.

Customer Satisfaction & Quality Control

  • Communicate effectively with Service Advisors regarding job status, concerns, or delays.
  • Address customer concerns as needed, ensuring the Service Manager is aware of any unresolved issues prior to vehicle delivery.
  • Identify and correct repeat issues or policy repairs; coach technicians on proper diagnostic and repair procedures to avoid rework.

Administrative & Warranty Support

  • Use Decisiv (Paccar Solutions Service Management) for documentation, job communication, and status updates.
  • Ensure warranty repairs are properly documented; tag and return warranty parts in accordance with policy.
  • Occasionally assist in opening and closing repair orders when Service Manager or Advisors are unavailable.
  • Coordinate with Parts Department to ensure parts are available before starting jobs.

Shop Maintenance & Safety

  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices among all team members.
  • Ensure tools and shop equipment are properly maintained and in working condition.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of truck or automotive repair experience.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and diagnostic proficiency.
  • Minimum 1 year in a leadership or mentorship role within a repair shop.
  • Proficiency with computers and service software platforms.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree in Diesel Technology, Automotive, Business, or related field.
  • Experience in a dealership or commercial truck repair facility.
  • Prior experience in a working foreman or lead technician role.
  • Possession of a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).

Physical Demands

  • Must regularly stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and arms to operate tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent movement throughout the shop environment and regular exposure to typical repair shop conditions.
