Registered Nurse (RN) — Wound Care

Job Summary

Provide specialized wound care under established protocols, including assessment, treatment, patient/family education, and documentation. Collaborate with providers and nursing staff to reduce infection risk, promote skin integrity, and support optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive wound assessments, linear measurements, photography per policy, and staging/classification; update plans of care.
  • Complete sterile and non-sterile dressing changes; apply topical agents/ointments; manage drainage devices/pouches.
  • Provide conservative sharp debridement and silver nitrate application as indicated; irrigate/cleanse wounds; obtain quantitative swab cultures.
  • Initiate and monitor negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT/VAC); apply venous compression wraps; support whirlpool/hydrotherapy as ordered.
  • Perform diabetic foot exams; complete ankle-brachial index (ABI) testing to guide treatment.
  • Educate patients/families on prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation; document all teaching and responses.
  • Maintain infection prevention and safety standards; participate in wound care education/in-services; document thoroughly in the EHR.

Job Qualifications

Required

  • Current Arkansas RN license (or compact eligible); BLS
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; strong documentation and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Wound certification (e.g., WOCN/CWCN, WCC, OMS) or commitment to obtain.
  • Recent experience with conservative sharp debridement, NPWT/VAC, venous compression, and complex/chronic wound management.
  • Experience performing ABI testing and diabetic foot assessments.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Status: PRN
  • Schedule: Day shift with occasional flexibility per patient needs
  • Pay: Competitive base pay; differentials where applicable (details during interview)
