Position Overview

The Campus Recreation Department at Charleston Southern University is seeking enthusiastic and committed student employees to support the diverse recreational activities and wellness programs on campus. These roles provide students with the opportunity to engage with their peers, foster a healthy and active campus community, and develop essential leadership and professional skills. Each position plays a vital role in the success of Campus Recreation, contributing to the planning, execution, and management of recreational facilities, events, and programs that enhance the overall student experience at CSU.


Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities vary by role and may include, but are not limited to:

  • Create promotion materials such as flyers, posters, banners, social medical graphics, and other digital and print media to advertise campus recreation activities.
  • Ensure all designs align with university branding guidelines
  • Assist in designing promotional materials including flyers, posters, social media graphics, and digital signage for Campus Recreation events and programs.
  • Ensure that all designs align with Charleston Southern University’s branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with professional staff and student workers to create marketing materials that drive participation in recreation activities
  • Take and edit photos for events, activities, and facility promotions as needed.
  • Update and maintain bulletin boards, TV slides, and website graphics.
  • Provide creative input and support for new marketing initiatives and campaigns.
  • Manage multiple projects at once while meeting deadlines.
  • Assist with occasional set-up and documentation of events (such as taking event photos).
  • Other duties as assigned to support Campus Recreation’s promotional efforts.
  • Work in collaboration with the office and marketing team.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Majoring in Graphic Design
  • Attention to Detail
  • Proficiency in relevant technology and tools (e.g., social media platforms, office software, maintenance tools, etc.).
  • Independent creativity
  • Administrative Skills
  • Flexibility, creativity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Schedule

If offered work study employment, supervisors will coordinate work hours based on student’s class schedule. Students are not permitted to work during chapel or during regularly scheduled class time (even if the class is cancelled for some reason).


Compensation:

$ 13/Hour paid on the 15th of the month following the month when the work was performed (e.g. work performed in June, is paid on July 15).


Evaluation Procedures

Students will be evaluated on their work performance which includes their ability to follow instructions and to complete work without errors. Students are expected to be punctual and to contact their supervisor if they will be late or unable to come to work. Cell phones should be placed on silent while in the workplace and students should only use their cell phones in emergency situations.

  • These roles are intended to provide students with a meaningful employment experience that contributes to both their personal and career development.
  • Campus Recreation Student Employment reports to Nathan Cobb, Director of Campus Recreation.
  • Students enrolled in courses during the semester they are working are FICA-exempt.
  • Students not enrolled in the semester are required to pay FICA taxes.
  • Students are not permitted to work during scheduled class times.

Eligibility/Requirement(s):

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Charleston Southern University.
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study.
  • Must have completed all documentation required by Financial Aid.
  • Must have accepted their financial aid award.
