Position Overview

The Director of Student Activities, reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, is responsible for cultivating an engaging, inclusive, and Christ-centered campus life experience through the development and execution of high-impact programs, events, and services that reflect the mission and values of Charleston Southern University. This position plays a key leadership role in shaping campus culture, fostering student involvement, and building community.


Key Responsibilities
•    Planning, executing, and assessing major campus events throughout the year, including Sweet 16 events, Homecoming, Family Weekend, Welcome Week (Orientation), and the Ring Ceremony.
•    Serving on the Operation Christmas Child Committee, supporting CSU’s mission of service and outreach.
•    Recruiting, training, and advising a student activities leadership team (Crew members) who assist with campus events and develop programming and entertainment opportunities.
•    Gathering and analyzing student feedback to inform programming decisions and enhance engagement.
•    Promoting events through a variety of platforms, including digital, print, and face-to-face outreach.
•    Serving as the main administrator for the BucNation app, CSU’s primary platform for communicating events and announcements to students.
•    Facilitating professional development opportunities for student organization leaders.
•    Collaborating with key campus partners including Athletics, Academic Affairs, Campus Ministries, Residence Life, and others to develop well-rounded co-curricular programming.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Attributes

•    Bachelor’s degree required.
•    Experience working in student activities, student life, or a related field in higher education.
•    Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and creative skills.
•    A demonstrated ability to develop student leaders through a student-centered, service-oriented approach.
•    Experience planning and executing events and student programming.
•    Capacity to manage multiple programs simultaneously with attention to detail.
•    A firm commitment to the Christian mission of Charleston Southern University and the ability to create programming that supports holistic student development through a Christ-centered lens.
•    Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
