Position Overview

The College of Christian Studies is seeking two motivated student work studies to support its digital communication and outreach efforts. These roles will focus on creating engaging, Christ-centered social media content that highlights departmental programs, faculty, student experiences, and ministry opportunities.
The Social Media Student Assistants will collaborate with the faculty and staff to help manage the department’s online presence, ensuring that content reflects the mission of the university and aligns with established brand guidelines


Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities vary by role and may include, but are not limited to:

•    Assist with creating and scheduling posts for departmental social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, etc.).
•    Capture and edit photos and short videos of departmental events, classes, and student life.
•    Monitor engagement, respond to comments/messages in alignment with the University’s Marketing & Communication brand guidelines, and help foster positive community interactions.
•    Maintain a monthly content calendar.
•    Ensure all content reflects the Christian mission of the department and university.
•    Submit weekly progress updates to supervising faculty/staff.
•    Support departmental events by providing live coverage or post-event recaps


Required Skills and Attributes

•    Familiarity with major social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter).
•    Basic photography and video recording skills (smartphone acceptable).
•    Proficiency in simple editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express, Instagram/TikTok, Capcut editing features).
•    Strong written communication skills with attention to tone and accuracy.
•    Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
•    Creativity and willingness to share new ideas.

Preferred but not required:
•    Experience with analytics tools (Meta Business Suite, Instagram Insights, etc.).
•    Prior experience in communications, marketing, or student leadership

Hours

•    Approximately 6–8 hours per week (per position).
•    Flexible schedule with hours spread across the week to cover events and regular posting.
•    Must be available for occasional evening/weekend departmental events.
•    Hours will be logged through Paycom.


Compensation

Hourly wage, based on university student employment guidelines.

Additional Notes

  • These roles are intended to provide students with a meaningful employment experience that contributes to both their personal and career development
  • Students enrolled in courses during the semester they are working are FICA-exempt.
  • Students not enrolled in the semester are required to pay FICA taxes.
  • Students are not permitted to work during scheduled class times.

Eligibility/Requirement(s):

  • This position is only open to Federal Work Study (FWS) eligible students.

Federal Work-Study:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Charleston Southern University.
  • Must have completed all documentation required by Financial Aid.
  • Must have accepted their financial aid award.
