Summary
The Graduate Assistant for Campus Recreation Operations & Fitness Programs plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations, staffing, and programming within the Campus Recreation department. This position is responsible for supervising student employees, coordinating fitness engagement opportunities, assisting with facility management, and ensuring exceptional service and safety across all Campus Recreation facilities. Position requires a commitment of approximately 29 hours per week.
Work Performed
RECRUITMENT & HIRING
• Lead the full student employment process, including application review, interviews, hiring decisions, and onboarding.
• Coordinate and facilitate training sessions for all new student employees to ensure readiness and compliance with departmental standards.
STAFF MANAGEMENT & OVERSIGHT
• Monitor student employee timecards to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
• Conduct disciplinary meetings, coaching conversations, and performance evaluations as needed to support student employee development.
• Provide hands-on support in all facility areas, stepping in to assist with coverage and operational needs.
FITNESS PROGRAMMING & ENGAGEMENT
• Coordinate group fitness classes and other fitness opportunities to increase student engagement and support campus wellness initiatives.
• Recruit, hire, and supervise group fitness instructors and training staff.
• Develop and promote weekly fitness schedules, special events, and wellness-focused programming.• Evaluate fitness offerings regularly and adjust based on student participation, trends, and departmental goals.
OPERATIONAL REPORTING
• Run weekly operational reports for the Director of Campus Recreation, ensuring accurate and timely data submission.
• Compile data from facility supervisor end-of-shift reports, documenting incidents, equipment damage, customer concerns, and operational needs.
FACILITY & SCHEDULING COORDINATION
• Assist with facility scheduling and reservations for spaces such as basketball courts, fitness areas, and outdoor intramural fields.
• Support coordination of daily operations to ensure spaces are prepared, staffed, and functioning properly.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor and respond to inquiries made to the Campus Recreation email account, providing timely and helpful communication.
• Assist with planning, setup, and execution of major Campus Recreation events, including tournaments, fitness events, and facility-wide initiatives.
• Report directly to the Director of Campus Recreation and provide support for departmental initiatives, strategic goals, and special projects.
