Please note: Regardless of the hours of the position, the selected candidate will have to be available to complete 2 weeks of training, Monday-Friday during the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm, upon hire.

Overview

Master-level Mental Health Professional (MHP) performs crisis intervention, risk assessment and referral services for individuals in the community that are experiencing a mental health crisis. The MHP will be part of a 2-person team which includes Leon County Sheriff Office law enforcement officer who will ride together and respond to mental health crisis calls that come through the Central Dispatch Agency (9-1-1). The MHP will strive to avert psychiatric hospitalization though crisis intervention, but if needed, the officer may initiate the Baker Act or Marchman Act for involuntary examination when appropriate.  The MHP will make referrals and help to connect individuals with community resources and treatment. The MHP will conduct risk assessments and document in Apalachee Center’s electronic medical record.

 

ESSENTIAL/CORE JOB-SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

 

  1. Provides crisis intervention counseling and risk assessment.
  2. Collects collateral information from families and other sources to complete risk assessment.
  3. Arranges for Baker Act and Marchman Act examinations when appropriate.
  4. Links clients served with services and other resources.
  5. Provides follow-up outreach per protocols.
  6. Maintains all required documentation in accordance with Clinical Record Handbook specifications or Agency policies and procedures.
  7. Consults with inpatient and outpatient staff about referrals as needed.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: 

 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university or college with a major in the field of counseling, social work, psychology, or a related human services field.
  • Two years of related professional experience working with individuals with serious and persistent mental illness on an inpatient or outpatient basis, including crisis intervention.
