Pharmacy Technician

Erie Family Health Centers, a nationally recognized top workplace with 13 sites in Chicago and suburbs, is looking for a valuable addition to the Pharmacy Services Team. The Pharmacy Technician interacts with community pharmacies and Erie Family Health Centers’ healthcare team to ensure barriers in picking up a medication are addressed. Additionally, the Pharmacy Technician provides support for the 340B program including monthly audits and navigating 340B issues at the pharmacies.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides support as requested to providers or other clinical staff regarding insurance formulary and medication coverage.
• Utilizes standing orders to provide refills or substitutions as appropriate.
• Provides clarification to pharmacists regarding prescribed medications, including dose and frequency, as documented by patient’s provider.
• Collaborates with providers, nurses, and other clinical support staff as needed to process prior authorization medication requests.
• Communicate medications on back order and shortages. Communicate medication insurance coverage issues.
• Receives all calls from external pharmacies. Troubleshoot 340B issues at the pharmacy.

Education

• At least (1) one year of pharmacy technician experience required
• Active pharmacy technician license for Illinois required

Skills and Knowledge Required

• CPR Certification
• Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Experience using electronic medical records; ability to navigate a patient’s chart and medication history
• Ability to use verbal and written communication to interact with pharmacies and clinical staff

Preferred

• Familiarity with 340B program preferred
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office a plus.
• Intermediate EPIC skills are a plus.
• Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) is a plus. May be required to assist or work with non-English/Spanish-only speaking patients and/or guests.
