Position Summary

The Commercial Lending Assistant provides critical support to Commercial Relationship Managers while ensuring customers experience seamless, high-quality service. This role strengthens relationships by acting as a trusted liaison between customers, relationship managers, and loan administration staff. Through attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to excellence, the Lending Assistant helps contribute to a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and adaptability that drives Core Bank forward.

 

Core Responsibilities

 

  1. Deliver timely, thoughtful service by anticipating needs, researching discrepancies, and resolving issues with care and accuracy.

  2. Partner with Relationship Managers to prepare and review documentation for new and renewed customer relationships, ensuring a smooth onboarding and closing experience.

  3. Assist customers with advances, paydowns, transfers, and treasury activities while keeping a close eye on overdrafts, past-due items, and documentation exceptions.

  4. Work with internal teams and external partners to gather all necessary information for underwriting, processing, and closing commercial loans.

  5. Prepare and review closing documents, including promissory note, deed of trust, loan agreements, guarantee, and other loan closing documents, helping to ensure transactions are accurate, complete, and ready for funding.

  6. Proactively communicate requirements, deadlines, and changes to Relationship Managers and customers, fostering clarity and trust.

  7. Strengthen customer and team relationships by approaching each interaction with authenticity, professionalism, and a focus on positive outcomes.

  8. Provide administrative support, such as document review, scanning, and ordering searches, while assisting bankers in clearing loan exceptions.

  9. Escalate issues and communicate with Relationship Managers as appropriate.

  10. Monitor loans and deposits, overdrafts, past due ticklers and collateral, and documentation exceptions and communicate with Relationship Managers as appropriate.

  11. Correspond with applicants, internal employees, and outside vendors to obtain all necessary documentation to underwrite, process, and close new loans as well as renewals. Obtain expiring or lapsed documents, to include title policy, UCC searches, etc.

  12. Assist Relationship Managers in obtaining current collateral, financial and legal information, and scan to appropriate internal storage.

  13. Consistently maintain a high level of communication with the Relationship Managers and staff; communicate deadline changes and potential conflicts.

  14. Represent the bank with professionalism and a constructive, solutions-focused attitude.

  15. Maintain confidentiality; adhere to Core Bank policies and procedures, comply with laws, regulations, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 years of banking experience, with time spent in loan administration preferred
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience with Sageworks and Abrigo preferred, but not required

 

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

  • Alignment with Core Bank’s Purpose, Vision, and Values
  • Demonstrated proficiency with software applications including Microsoft Office, CRM and core banking systems
  • Strong working knowledge of banking regulations, lending policy, and documentation requirements
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills; must be able to communicate tactfully with customers while handling issues of a relatively complex nature
