Job Summary:

The Leave and Benefits Specialist will assist in administering employee benefits programs, including and not limited to retirement plans, leave policies, wellness programs, and insurance policies such as medical, dental, life, short & long-term disability. This position will deliver compliance and equitable administration of benefits to all employees, in accordance with applicable laws and policies.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist with open enrollment. 

    • Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.

    • Ensures compliance with applicable government regulations.

    • Assist in the coordination of daily benefits processing. Assist with handling enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, distributions, loans, hardships, and compliance testing.

    • Track prenatal, jury duty and bereavement requests.

    • Assist with maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee records.

    • Assist in invoice reconciliation & billing of elected deductions while out on leave

    • Perform plan audits; Prepare, collect, and organize data for actuarial assessments.

    • Provides customer service support to internal and external customers.

    • Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefits package.

    • Assist in designing and distributing materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment, and summary plan descriptions.

    • Provide training and support for all employees.

    • Maintains integral role within the operations of HR and CCANY.

    • Participate in various projects as assigned.

    • Provides other assistance as needed.

    • Maintains confidentiality.

    • Must possess a valid Driver’s License from New York, or a contiguous state (i.e., Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont) OR Must have the ability to take ample public transportation to attend meetings in person in the community and in the office as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

    • An Associate's Degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Communications, Business or equivalent is required.

    • A minimum of 3+ years of experience Benefits Administration of increasing levels of responsibility, preferably including nonprofit environments.

    • Knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending affecting employee benefits programs, including the Affordable Care Act, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Workers' Compensation, Medicare, OSHA, Social Security, and DOL requirements.

    • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, in addition to Paycom HRIS and benefits databases.

    • PHR or SHRM-CP is preferred.

    • Strong work ethic and drive to excel.

    • Strong problem-solving skills

    • Public speaking and presentation experience.

    • Working knowledge of HRIS systems and report generation.

    • Ability to analyze data and make recommendations.

    • Excellent oral and written communications.

    • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of individuals.

    • Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.

    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

    • Absolute sense of integrity and personal commitment to serving people with I/DD and their families.

    • Ability to work autonomously.

    • Demonstrates professionalism, respect, and ability to work in a team environment.
