I. General Purpose of the Job

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for general kitchen sanitation and washing of pots and dishes in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as Artesia Christian Home’s established policies and procedures. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining the storeroom. This position will report to and respond to directions provided by the Food Unit Lead and Director of Dining Services to ensure that quality service is always provided.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities   

  • Scrape and/or rinse food from dirty dishes and wash them by hand or place them in racks or conveyor dishwashing machines, depending on assigned equipment. Ensures complete cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Wash pots, pans, and trays based on assigned procedures. Ensure complete cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Polish silver using a burnishing machine tumbler, chemical dip, buffing wheel, and hand cloth, depending on assigned equipment and procedures. Ensures complete cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Ensure compliance with outlined safety procedures and utilizing appropriate personal protection equipment.
  • Maintain temperatures and chemical levels as outlined by provided standards, documenting appropriate logs by work area.
  • Keep dish area orderly and in compliance with safety standards.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
  • Wash worktables, walls, refrigerators, meat blocks, and other food prep surfaces.
  • Removes trash and places it in designated containers. Steam cleans or hoses out garbage cans.
  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas.
  • Help load and unload supplies and products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow Residents’ Rights and confidentiality policies at all times.
  • Follow facility safety, emergency & disaster program.
  • Observe infection control procedures related to the dietary department.
  • Assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ handbook.
  • Attend all in-service training programs and complete Relias trainings as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor cooperatively.
  • Employees are subject to work on the Main Campus and/or Memory Care.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  1. Must pass a California criminal background clearance.
  2. Have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. You must be at least 25 years of age to be added to Artesia Christian Home’s insurance policy.
  3. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  4. Possess at least a high school education or GED, and at least six months of prior experience is preferred.
  5. Must be willing to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions, temporarily, when necessary.
  6. Must be physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks.
    • Must pass a health screening test performed by a licensed physician, including a chest X-ray or intradermal test for TB.
    • Must be able to hear, talk, and have a clear vision with or without corrective lenses.
    • Must be capable of prolonged standing and walking continuously for the entire shift, frequent stooping and bending, and lifting of up to 25 lbs.
    • Must have sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher, the dish machine, and other cleaning equipment.
    • Must be able to work in wet and/or humid conditions, subject to extreme cold and heat, substances, chemicals, burns from equipment requiring precautions.
  7.  Must possess the ability to get along well with others and work as a team member, demonstrating flexibility and patience.
  8. Must have good personal hygiene to comply with Department of Health practices and regulations.
