About the Job:
As a Seasonal Grounds Worker, you’ll help keep Champaign’s beautiful parks and outdoor spaces clean, safe, and ready for community enjoyment. You’ll play a hands-on role maintaining grounds and facilities during the busy season—ensuring our parks, athletic fields, and amenities are in top condition for visitors of all ages. This is a great opportunity to work outdoors, learn new skills, and contribute directly to your community’s recreational spaces.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Perform mowing, trimming, edging, and sod installation
- Clean and maintain park grounds, trash receptacles, and outdoor facilities
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of athletic fields, including dragging, lining, and repairs
- Operate a variety of equipment such as tractors, mowers, trimmers, and hand tools
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs
- Inspect and report needed maintenance for vehicles, equipment, and park areas
- Maintain safety practices at all times and follow Park District policies
- Interact courteously with the public and coworkers, providing excellent customer service
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Be available for flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one; clean driving record required
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively
- Capable of performing strenuous outdoor labor in varied weather
- Experience with hand tools and grounds equipment preferred
