Summary 

The Preschool Instructor assists in implementing and supervising the Preschool Program in a team approach. 


Supervision 

The Preschool Instructor is directly responsible to the Preschool Supervisor 


Classification 

  • Hourly, non-exempt 

  • Part-time 2 (not to exceed 19 hours per week) 


Training – Can be obtained through the Champaign Park District 

  • First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification 
  • Heads Up Concussion training 

  • Mandated reporter training 

  • Harassment prevention training 

  • Bloodborne pathogen training 

  • Driver training and test 

  • Facility training 


Essential Functions 

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves 

  • Supervise and engage with children in both indoors and outdoors settings. 

  • Prepare and organize daily activity materials. 

  • Implement developmentally appropriate activities such as storytelling, art, music, and science. 

  • Clean and organize the program area after activities 

  • Inspect equipment and facilities for safety hazards and promptly report concerns. 

  • Create a warm, caring environment where children and parents feel comfortable, safe, happy, and welcome. 

  • Assists with overall program preparation and planning. 

  • Attend required meetings and training sessions. 

  • Effectively plan and organize preschool-appropriate activities to support early learning. 

  • Comply with equal opportunity and harassment laws, policies, and procedures. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age 

  • One of the following combinations of education and experience: 

  • Sixty (60) semester hours of college coursework with at least eighteen (18) hours in early childhood education, child development, or a related field, or 

  • Thirty (30) semester hours of college coursework and one (1) year of child care experience, or 

  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of child care experience.
