POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will serve under the direction of the CEO.  In coordination with the CEO, this role will also serve under the organization’s Executive Council, Board of Directors, and lead the Board’s Fund Development Committee. The CDO will be responsible for developing, leading and implementing all elements of the organization’s development strategy, including major donor development, foundation relations, government grants, fundraising events, high-impact volunteer activities, and external marketing and communications.  This individual will design, lead and manage a high-functioning Development team and a $1.5M+ budget.  The CDO will coordinate with key program leaders to reach agency goals that reflect the company’s values, mission and vision.  The Chief Development Officer will also support agency marketing and communications including through management of outside PR and design firms.  

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Proven experience as a Chief Development Officer or similar senior fundraising role, with at least 10 years’ experience demonstrating competency in development, community relations and communications
  • Five (5) years management experience required
  • Advanced knowledge of development practices acquired through education and/or increasingly responsible work experience
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing fundraising strategies
  • Experience with a variety of fundraising mechanisms and relationships, such as, major donors, foundation/government grants, annual giving, direct mail / email / social media fundraising, planned giving, employee giving, and fundraising events
  • Experience managing development staff and team budget
  • Experience working effectively with a Board of Directors and other volunteer committees
  • Experience with fundraising to support human services areas of housing, early childhood, economic development, and integrated / behavioral health is preferred
  • Certification in fundraising, the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Professional), is preferred
  • Maintain Valid Driver’s License
