FLSA Status:        Full-time / Non-Exempt (hourly)

Compensation:    $28.87 to $34.41 per hour

Schedule:             Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm

Location:         This position is 100% in-person, located at 1560 Berger Drive, San Jose CA 95112. Some presence may be required

    at our other location at 2650 Senter Road, San Jose CA 95111.

Travel:              Local travel between job sites may be required up to 50% of the time.

 

About the San Jose Conservation Corps (SJCC+CS):

One of the first urban Conservation Corps in the country, the San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School (SJCC+CS) was founded in 1987 to empower young adults aged 18 to 27 ("Corpsmembers") to upskill themselves and advance their career in conservation and green spaces. Today, SJCC+CS continues to operate its 1-year-long paid workforce development program, while also functioning as a WASC-accredited charter high school, allowing those who have aged out of the traditional education system to earn their high school diploma.

About the Position:

The Corps Futures Coordinator is responsible for supporting Corpsmembers with career exploration and development through career readiness workshops, postsecondary program events and sharing about opportunities. Conducting monthly check-ins with Corpsmembers in order to support Education Award review, career development, and pathway interest. As Corpsmembers transition to their desired pathway Corps Futures coordinators will conduct follow up meetings to verify placement and successful completion.

 

In addition to strong communication and organizational skills, the Corps Futures Coordinator should be able to maintain professionalism at all times while working with various department staff (such as job-training, charter school, etc.) and external partners. Corps Futures Coordinator should have prior experience in training development, facilitation, youth development, postsecondary education, data tracking, time management, critical thinking and public speaking.

 

What You'll Do:

Post-Secondary Pathways

  • Facilitate vocational program pathway and career opportunities workshop during monthly scheduled orientations.
  • Provide monthly Corpsmember journey progression that tracks most up-to-date portfolio completion.
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly workshops that focus on job readiness and career development.
  • Support with facilitation of CTE Corpsmember training, workshops, and industry-recognized certification sessions.
  • Coordinate a quarterly Futures Fair that exposes Corpsmembers to local post-secondary opportunities.
  • Plan quarterly postsecondary program tours, field trips, and speaker events that provide opportunities for Corpsmembers to explore desired career pathways.

Corpsmember Portfolio

  • Responsible for ensuring each Corpsmember has a portfolio that includes the following:
    • Career Readiness Files: career exploration, resume, cover letter (template), completed job application, interview preparation worksheet, references
    • Department Specific and Vocational Training certifications: such as, but not limited to - safety compliance, environmental education, technical training, and advanced operational training (S-212, S-130)
    • Industry-Recognized Certifications:
      • American Red Cross: First Aid, CPR, AED and Bloodborne Pathogens
      • OSHA-10 Safety and Health Lifetime certification
      • 40-hour Hazardous Waste and Emergency Operations (HAZWOPER)
      • Internal Combustion/Wheel Electric Forklift certification
      • UCANR California Naturalist or Climate Stewards

Data Collection and Reporting

  • Gather, compile, and analyze data related to Corpsmember Education Award completion, training, and placement
  • Prepare data for presentations in graphic, tabular, pictorial, and written form
  • Prepare regular system for reporting
  • Support with the Corpsmember recognition and appreciation events and activities

 

Administration & General

  • Schedule, coordinate, and meet with job-training department corpsmembers
  • Lead administrative point of contact for emails in regards to Corps Futures training, workshops, and 1:1 meeting.
  • Communicate with corpsmembers scheduled training and opportunities, edit master training calendar, and communicate via email, phone, Slack about training opportunities.
  • Work with staff in scheduling training, workshop, 1:1 meetings or events from external partners
  • Order program supplies and track receipts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What to Expect:

Position may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. The incumbent may be required to drive a vehicle up to 35% of the time. The position may require the incumbent to occasionally lift up to 25lbs. Additionally, the position requires far and near vision when driving, reading, and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The nature of the work may require the incumbent to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

Employment At-Will Statement:

The San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School is an “At-Will” employer. This means that employment with SJCC+CS is voluntarily entered into and staff members are free to resign at any time.  Similarly, SJCC+CS may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or prior notice, as it deems appropriate.   This at-will employment relationship can be changed only in a written agreement signed by the staff member and the Executive Director of SJCC+CS.

 

**SJCC+CS IS A MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION EMPLOYER**

All new hires will be required to provide proof of vaccination absent an approved medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. If a new hire is in the process of being vaccinated, their start date may be adjusted to a future date after they have been vaccinated.  Fully vaccinated means at it has been at least two weeks since the person has completed the entire recommended initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • One of the following must apply:
    • High School Diploma or GED + 4 years of relevant work experience in program and training facilitation, leading workshops, and/or engaging youth
    • Associate’s degree in education, social work, environmental studies, natural resources, or a related field + 3 years of relevant work experience such as teaching for an environmental education program
    • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, environmental studies, natural resources, or a related field + 2 years of relevant work experience such as teaching for an environmental education program
  • Passion for youth development, workforce development, education, conservation, climate change, social and racial justice, and/or related subjects.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with teams, build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and external partners, and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Experience with and ability to engage with, motivate, encourage and support young adults from a wide variety of social, educational and economic backgrounds.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with experience planning and leading group workshops or trainings.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and stay calm under pressure.

 

Driving Record and Requirements: The incumbent of this position will be required to drive company vehicles, and must submit a copy of their DMV driver’s record as a condition of hire. The candidate also must possess and continue to maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and a clean driving record acceptable to the organization's auto insurance company.

 

Employment Eligibility: Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in the United States. Please be informed that San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School will NOT sponsor, represent, or sign any documents related to visa applications/transfers for H1-B or any other type of visa which requires an employer application.

 

Medical Verification: State law requires all employees working with youth to provide medical verification of negative tuberculosis test results within the last year. Employees will also be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

 

Background Check and Fingerprinting: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo Live Scan Fingerprinting as well as a background check, which includes a state and federal criminal history record check.

 

Drug Screen: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo and pass a 5-panel drug screen.
