Perform duties required to operate, monitor, load and unload heat treating furnaces, tempering equipment, and cleaning equipment according to specifications, quality requirements, and production schedules; and perform duties required to inspect items processed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read production log and notes from previous shift to determine setup or changeover requirements.
- Start up, regulate and shut down equipment in such a way as to avoid damage in excess of normal wear and tear.
- Set, monitor, and regulate equipment following production schedules, shop orders, or other instructions; adjust as necessary to maximize equipment performance, documenting adjustments accurately.
- Integrate department work with other departments to cause minimum disruption and to reduce processing time.
- Load parts, or direct loading of parts by other workers, checking loads to ensure parts are racked properly prior to loading into equipment.
- Monitor and document settings on shop orders; record required entries including processing changes on the shop orders; store paperwork adequately; and initial and date all entries.
- Add soap and soluble oil to respective tanks as necessary; check wash tanks for proper skimmer operation.
- Inspect in-process work using the proper samples to ensure it meets customer requirements; document inspection results; tag parts as required.
- Recognize parts which are cracked, distorted, or have an unacceptable appearance.
- Repackage parts, or direct unloading and repackaging by other workers.
- Transfer finished work to the appropriate staging or shipping area.
- Straighten furnace baskets.
- Log all activities accurately.
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment as required.
- Assist Supervisor in training with new employees.
- Basic equipment troubleshooting.
- May be called upon to participate in special activities such as Chemical Inventories, Fire Extinguisher Inspections, Dew Point checks, LPA auditing, Safety/Environmental Committee, or special team projects.
