Primary Work Location:  

The Kelly Cullen Community (KCC) is located in the Tenderloin neighborhood and is home to 174 individuals with extremely low incomes, including those that experienced homelessness and are currently living with health challenges. On-site social services are run by the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation. Clinical services are provided by Cardea Health.   

 

Job Summary:   

Cardea Health seeks a highly motivated Nurse with a special interest in working with people experiencing homelessness to work as a Nurse Manager. The ideal candidate will be invested in Cardea Health’s mission of serving marginalized populations with compassion and empathy. Cardea clinical staff need to be flexible, patient, and willing to work in challenging environments with a diverse population.  

The KCC Nursing Manager will oversee the nursing teams and patient care and work closely with the Cardea Health Director of Nursing and Director of Clinical Operations to ensure the delivery of high quality and consistent care to residents across both locations. 

Cardea Health staff collaborate with other housing programs and social services to create a safe, independent living environment for a dynamic and vulnerable population. The ideal candidate will be invested in Cardea Health’s mission of serving marginalized populations with compassion and empathy. The Nurse Manager will need to be flexible, patient, and willing to work in challenging environments with a diverse population. Experience with homeless or incarcerated populations is highly desirable. This is an excellent position for someone who is seeking to advance and gain experience in a healthcare social service setting. 

Qualifications & Responsibilities

Minimum Required Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing, or Licensed Registered Nurse through the California Board of Registered Nursing or certificate as a Licensed Vocational Nurse 

  • Current Basic Life Support Certification 

  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse 

  • Experience with homeless or incarcerated populations is highly desirable 

  • Must have personal, reliable transportation to and from work sites and shifts 

  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision 

  • Detailed oriented and highly organized 

  • Compliance with all company policies 

  • Must provide proof of COVID vaccination or willing to be vaccinated 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required 

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:  

The Nurse Manager will manage clinical staff and shelter residents in the coordination of medical and behavioral health care 

Supervision: 

  • Supervise the orientation of new clinical staff members to the medically frail housing site, policies, and procedures. Evaluate the readiness of clinical staff to work independently and communicate to clinical leadership 

  • Communicate clinical policy initiatives and and changes to clinical team across programs. Ensure that trainings, policy updates, and important information points are communicated across clinical staff 

  • Identify continuing education needs for clinical staff across sites. Collaborate with clinical leadership to develop and execute continuing education programs 

  • Monitor staff performance, report training and coaching as indicated. Report issues with staff performance to Director of Nursing 

  • Direct the daily clinical care provided on site by Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and caregivers 

Clinical 

  • Ensure adherence to infection control standards on site among staff and residents 

  • Participate in population health interventions among clients that contribute to safety and health including measures designed to stop the spread of Covid-19 and other infectious diseases 

  • Maintain confidentially in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) 

  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies, follow up with MD communication or 911 activation 

  • Practice harm reduction principles, including interventions that minimize harmful effects of substance use while treating all residents with dignity and respect 

  • Act as a point person for communications with the housing staff 

  • Communicate supply needs, order supplies as necessary. Train other staff in how to locate supplies and how to place orders 

  • Communicate incidents and urgent situations to Cardea Health clinical leadership 

Physical Demands: 

  • Stand constantly 

  • Walk frequently 

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds 

  • Employees may occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. 

Work Environment: 

  • Supportive housing facility 

  • This position will require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings as required by the job
