Job Summary:

The Transport Network Engineer’s primary responsibility is to design, optimize, validate, and configure the transport layer of Surf Internet’s network and systems. This position requires excellent attention to detail and communication skills in a team environment while supporting a reliable and high-performance network.

Reports To: Reliability Engineering Manager

Job Status: Exempt

Key Responsibilities:

· Designing, optimizing, validating, and configuring all aspects of the Surf Internet transport network.

· Continually working to improve the customer experience and performance of the network at the transport and access layer. Continually evaluating and optimizing the use of optical network resources.

· Working with transportation protocols such as MPLS and optical technologies such as WDM and ROADM to ensure proper traffic handling, including high-speed failover during network events.

· Ensuring that traffic is properly routed and switched using protocols such as BGP , OSPF, IS-IS, and MPLS between the access and transport layers of the Surf Internet network.

· Support the NOC for advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics. As well as training and escalations.

· Coordinate with Surf teams for optical network design, including placement and equipment selection.

· Coordinate with Surf teams for site upgrade planning, design, and implementation.

· Perform firmware testing and validation.

· Provide network assistance by working in close contact with the vendors and clients.

· Ensure the knowledge base is current and accurate, and the technical issues are tracked and documented in a detailed format.

· Participate in on-call shifts as needed in support of our 24x7 network operations.

· Create and manage documentation and diagrams for how the network functions and is configured.

· Represent Surf Internet professionally to satisfy immediate external stakeholder needs to foster return business and establish Surf as an “easy to do business with” provider.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, IT, computer science, or related field of study preferred

· 5+ years of networking experience

· Strong understanding of BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPLS, IS-IS, DWDM, GPON, and Active E fiber networks

· Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices

· Knowledge of application transport and infrastructure protocols

· Ability to create network diagrams and documentation for the design and planning of network communication systems

· Strong analytical and problems solving skills

· Knowledge of network cabling and network topology

· Fluency in Juniper, Mikrotik, Adva routing and switching preferred

· Fluency with Infinera Transport ROADM/DWDM and Adtran TA5K preferred

· Knowledge with Solar Winds Oracle, Tableau, and Site Tracker software preferred

· JNCIS-SP certification preferred
